A new song had just come over the gramophone.

Levi looked on at (y/n) from a distance. He was leaning against a marble wall with his back, his hands in the pockets of his military coat. She was still dancing with Connie. He wanted to see her, and finally speak to her that evening, but he saw how much fun she was having with her friends and didn't want to interrupt. He subconsciously fathomed over how beautiful she looked in her dress. He had never seen her wear one before, it gave her a completely new kind of grace and tenderness. A few of Kenny's last words rang through his head, how'd you get a girl like that? He had long noticed others hovering around her during the evening, other male soldiers, nobles and Jean, of course, all the while eyeing her almost as intently as he was. He clicked his tongue and fought the urge to clench his fists.

After a while, Erwin came up beside him, holding a chalice of wine. He looked to where Levi was staring. Levi's gaze didn't falter.

"(y/n) looks especially beautiful this evening, doesn't she?" Erwin spoke to Levi, not looking at him but at her. She was in conversation with Connie, but they were too far away to be able to tell their expressions.

Levi frowned slightly at his remark and scoffed softly. Of course Erwin had noticed too.

"Why tell me? Aren't compliments usually given to the person they're about?" he muttered.

"Oh I intend to." Erwin agreed, looking at Levi now. He had slight smirk on. Levi could only scoff. Erwin chuckled as Levi seemed to get so instantly jealous. Erwin's expression grew softer and he sighed. He looked back to (y/n).

"If I truly wanted to steal her away from you, I should have begun trying around three years ago." he mumbled in his deep voice. He took a sip of wine. Levi was surprised, his eyebrows furrowing a bit in confusion. He looked to Erwin now, who didn't look back at him. This was the first time Erwin  explicitly implied that Levi and (y/n) were already truly together in some way or form, and it was certainly the first time he'd ever let on that he might have had a romantic interest in (y/n). Levi looked away from him, and back at (y/n) in her (color) dress.

"Ch, please, your height difference would make it all but impossible anyway." he muttered.

Erwin laughed. The difference in size between (y/n) and Erwin was almost comical.

They watched as (y/n) and Connie broke apart, and saw Jean stepping up to her, holding out his hand. She took it, seemingly with one of her affectionate smiles.

"However, it seems the young ones aren't as quick to accept their losses." Erwin spoke softly, seeing Jean take her hand.

Levi looked at Erwin, wanting to be able to see his expression.

"I do hope you're joking with all this, Erwin." Levi muttered sincerely, more serious than before. If Erwin honestly did think he made a wrong call for not pursuing (y/n) from the beginning, Erwin might be disappointed to find out just how serious Levi and (y/n) were already getting.

From the way Levi spoke, Erwin could tell what Levi was thinking. He looked down, examining his chalice mindlessly, a genuine smile on, though there was a trace of ruefulness detectable. Levi sighed silently. Guess not even Erwin's the exception.

"It wouldn't really matter, not now anyways, would it," he asked rhetorically, looking at Levi now, one eyebrow raised. Levi raised his eyebrows.

"It does matter to me. It's embarrassing to see you look so rejected. Pull it together." Levi spoke harshly. Erwin chuckled.
