Before I start, this was very much inspired by a oneshot written by Sachii-Kun, so go check them out!

High school AU cause' I'm a total sucker for teenage Prinxiety

For context, Roman's last name in this AU is Kingsley. Also, Virgil has two moms.

Tw: cursing

Virgil awoke from a nightmare in a cold sweat for the third time that night, gasping and scrabbling wildly at his sheets as he tried to get his bearings. He calmed a little when his eyes adjusted to the dark, revealing the rest of his room.

"God fucking damnnit. I try to 'take care of myself' ONE TIME and this is the shit I get for it," he growled, throwing of his blankets in disgust. The cold floorboards creaked under his feet as he padded towards the living room. If he wasn't going to sleep, then he was going to do what he did every night- eat junk food and drink a shit-ton of coffee while watching TV.

The sky was still dark. The only light illuminating the room was faint moonlight streaming through the kitchen window.

Virgil went first to the cabinet and grabbed Oreos, popcorn, and saltines. He turned the coffee maker on and set a mug under it. While it was warming up, he brought all the snacks over to the couch. A pile of blankets and pillows lay in front of the couch. The TV was turned on and was set to play The Nightmare Before Christmas, Virgil's favorite comfort movie.

As Virgil headed back to the kitchen to make his coffee, a soft beam of light caught his eye from down the hallway. His moms were out of town for the week, so he invited Roman over. It was nice being able to spend time with his boyfriend without his mom Lilith popping in every five minutes to take photos of them. He would've gone over to Roman's house--the TV in Roman's room was better--but Remus liked to stand outside the door and sing nursery rhymes at the top of his lungs, and he always changed the lyrics to something suggestive or profane.

"He must've left the door open," Virgil said, voicing his thoughts. He quickly made his way down the hall to shut it, just in case the movie was too loud. He peeked into the room to make sure he hadn't already woken him up, but was distracted when he spotted the old dresser in the corner. A few of the drawers were open and miscellaneous clothing items were draped over them.

Virgil smirked and quietly went to the dresser. With his back to Roman, he rummaged through a few of the larger drawers until he found one of Roman's hoodies. He folded it neatly over his arm when...

"Gotcha!"

Someone locked their arms around his stomach and lifted him into the air. In a moment of sheer terror, Virgil did the only thing his brain found logical: he turned and screamed as loudly as was possible at his captor's face. He expected them to strike him, or maybe scream back. What he did not expect was for his captor to drop him with a yelp of, "Gods almighty, what was that!?"

Recognizing the voice, Virgil looked up at the person above him. Roman was holding a hand beside his ear with wide eyes. He stared down at Virgil.

"What kind of cacophonous outcry did I have the misfortune of hearing?" He asked, startled. Virgil made a shaky effort to stand. Roman still stared at him.

"Well? I'm not hearing an ans-"

SMACK

Virgil slapped him with all the strength he could muster. The force of the blow pushed Roman back onto his bed. He put a hand to his face.
