CHAPTER 12: The C.H.A.O.S (Part 1)

This chapter reveals how life can bring chaos, no matter how hard you try to avoid it. It shows how things changed for me and Alizeh, how our relationship evolved, and how we grew more fond of each other.

The day of our Maths exam arrived, and I was all set and ready. I longed to hear Alizeh's voice, to wish her luck for the exam, and to be in her presence. Being around her made me feel alive, and I felt complete with her by my side. However, even though I tried to stay away from her, my life was still being directed by her actions, and things always seemed to go according to her plan, regardless of my desires.

I searched for her in Amul Cafeteria where she usually studied with Kabir before the exam, but she was nowhere to be found. As I entered the classroom, I caught a glimpse of her sitting behind Ishani, and my heart filled with satisfaction. She looked different that day, with her hair styled in a way that made her look absolutely gorgeous. When she saw me, she kept looking my way, as if hoping to talk or see me. I couldn't resist and looked back into her eyes. She smiled and signaled me to come and sit with her, so I did. She apologized for not texting me the previous day, explaining that she wasn't feeling well. I wished her luck, and we exchanged pleasantries before returning to our respective seats.

Alizeh finished her exam before me and went back to Amul Cafeteria. When I finished my exam, I went to her, but I soon realized that I had messed up my paper badly. I felt upset, and on my way back to the hostel, I sat outside Chilling Point in a state of shock, trying to analyze what went wrong. Alizeh was there with Kabir, talking to Akash and the rest of the group about the exam, so I couldn't go to her. I felt broken and alone, both inside and out. The pain I was feeling due to Alizeh was amplified by the disappointment of my exam, and my eyes became numb.

I needed someone to console me, but I had no one. The pain felt unbearable, and I couldn't understand why God was doing this to me. I felt sad and upset, and I wished someone could understand how I was feeling. I went to eat lunch with Akash and Rahul, and Rahul tried to console me by telling me to forget about Alizeh and move on with my life, but his words didn't resonate with me.

When I returned to my room, I decided to lie down for a while, but Alizeh messaged me. I was surprised that she had messaged me, and my eyes became numb once again. She was the only person in my life who could console me, and I longed to cry in front of her.

Alizeh: "Oyee, are you okay? we haven't talked to each other for so many days, reply fast yaar!"

Varun: "No I am not!"

Alizeh: "I knew it, what happened?, Tell me, I am here!"

Varun: "Maths is fucked, and everyone just jokes about me and my feelings"

Alizeh: "Yaar, it might not have gone that bad, and did anyone say anything again?"

Varun: "And not only that I couldn't even talk at home properly, sometimes I say things in a rude way to my mom or sometimes my dad and even sometimes to my sister. I cannot figure out what is happening with me"

Alizeh: "Varun, please calm down!"

Varun: "Yes, my maths was very fucked up and I didn't even speak to anyone for the past few days!"

Alizeh: "Yaar it will not work out like that na, listen call me"

Varun: "Just let it be!"

Alizeh: "I am not asking you I am telling you, call me now!"

I dialed her number with a shaking hand, hoping that she would pick up the phone. After a few rings, she finally answered, her voice sounding like music to my ears. I took a deep breath and explained everything that had been weighing on my mind. I told her about my friends who had made fun of me and my feelings, how much I was struggling to cope, and how my exam had gone terribly wrong.
