Chapter 10: A Deal with the Devil

I woke up to the sound of my alarm. This is going to be a great Monday morning and I am going to make the best out of it. I prepared my breakfast with a lofi remix in the background. It just calms like that.

 I always make sure to get in the mood early in the morning so that I will have the energy to work later.

We don't have a required uniform in the office but we were reminded to dress professionally. I looked at the mirror while I combed my hair and made sure that nothing was out of place. 

Today is the beginning of my class and I have to make sure that I look fresh and prepared. My ass looks good in these pants too. No wonder Stijn keeps on mentioning it. Feeling cocky, Colton?

It is thirty minutes before the work starts and I am already at my desk checking all the reports. I think today is also the day where Joana will give me a client to work on. I am excited and scared at the same time because I haven't done this but I know that with my team's guidance, I can score my first client. 

"Good morning Colton."

I looked up and saw Joana. So she is the first one to arrive in the office after me. 

"I see you are already working on your reports. You really are one hard-working person, aren't you?"

"Just trying to prove myself I guess."

"That you are. First week and you are already helping Agatha and Nicole with their reports. I am sure you were like this too back in college that is why you graduated on top of your class," she muttered as she settled on her desk. "Oh and today is your first class too right?"

"Yeah. After our work, I will be going straight to the uni. It takes at least an hour to get there so I don't have time to spare."

"Oh good luck on that then. Also, today I will be giving you clients to work on already. If you have questions, you can ask Agatha, Nicole or John. I will be meeting with the boss and the other team leader for the whole day so I might not be here to answer you."

Oh so Stijn is not going to be available for the whole day? Thank God. I hope this is his schedule for the whole week so he doesn't have time to bother me. I am not sure I even know how to look him in the eyes after basically agreeing to what he wants.

This is a pivotal moment in my career because I am about to start talking with clients and if I can manage to get the ones that the company has been chasing for a while, then that promotion would be one step closer. Though I am sure that they will give me smaller clients first but I am just excited to prove myself.

As I was preparing my reports for my business pitch later, I heard Agatha and Nicole say their good morning greetings to Stijn. Oh he is here and he is looking fine as fuck with that black suit that he is wearing. He looks like he just came out of the cover of some business magazine.

I am not sure why he is staring at me. I try to say 'don't look at me' with my eyes because I don't want my co-workers finding out that I personally know him. He seemed to notice my glare so he just asked where Joana is. We said that she is with the other team leader in the conference room waiting for him.

Now that he is gone, I can relax now and focus on my work. Right there and then that I realize that he makes me anxious just by his mere presence. I don't like this feeling and I know what I have to do to get rid of it.

The day went on as usual. Agatha and Nicole were so patient with me as they explained the do's and don'ts when speaking to a client. I have observed them for the past week so I know the groundwork of the task at hand. I just have to be confident with my skills and listen really well to what the client is telling.
