~Chapter 6~ Phone Call

Nya POV~

I stood in the parking lot, bouncing my leg and constantly moving, looking for energetic kids.

"Ugh, he's an hour late!" I start to get angry. Crossing my arms while looking left and right.

I grab out my phone and tried to dial both Cole's and Sam's number once more, but neither pick up and go straight to voice mail again. I scrolled down to Kai's contact and called him.

"Hello?" Kai says casually.

"Kai, he isn't here yet! I'm literally about to call my lawyer!" I basically yell at him.

"Hey calm down, maybe he's struggling with the kids or something. Have you tried calling him?"

"YES! I tried calling both Cole and Sam, it just goes straight to voice mail! I texted him multiple times and no response." 

"Hmm, well I wouldn't make any calls to your lawyer just yet. There could be so many reasons why he isn't there yet."

I sigh.

"Yeah, I guess so." I confess. 

"Good, now give him a few more minutes and maybe he'll show." I can hear a small smile appear on his face.

All of a sudden, a black car pulls up and parks next to mine. With their windows tinted, I couldn't see anything inside or make out who it was. That was until he stepped out.

"Omg he's here, sorry Kai, talk to you later!"

"Okay, be careful Nya, talk to you later." He states before I hang up and slip my phone in my back pocket.

"Why are you so late?!" I ran over to his car. He shrugs.

"I lost track of time." He opens the back door and to my advantage, both the kids are sleeping.

"Okay, well that doesn't explain why you haven't been answering my phone call, nor messages!" He unbuckles Alex and rests her on his chest before looking at me.

"Look okay, I'm sorry!" I took a step back, fairly surprised by his apology. "I'll try my best to make sure to not leave my phone on vibrate and check it more often."

Uh, what? Why does it sound like he's really trying to change? And why is he being so gentle with Alex?

I quickly snap out of my thoughts and grabbed Sam from the other side of his car and set him down on his car seat and buckled him in. I turn around and was met with Cole.

"Sam didn't get a chance to finish his homework, but he shouldn't have much left." He stated. But something was off. His eyes were lowered, he was stiff when he stood and his breathing was irregular. The vibe between us was definitely not a good one.

"U-um, thanks." I pause awkwardly, not knowing what to do. "See you in a few weeks I guess." I slowly crept towards my drivers door, not losing eye contact with him. 

Once I shut the door, I instantly released a breath I didn't know I was holding. I looked over and saw Cole getting in his car a driving away. I look in the backseat to see two still sleeping angels. I creased my eyebrows, hoping that everything went alright at Cole's house. 

Once we got home, Sam was awake while Alex was still fast asleep. Looking at the time, it was 6pm, definitely time to wake her up. Once I started unbuckling Alex, she woke up easily.
