Chapter 1

It's been three weeks since I last entered this coffee shop and I never thought that I'll miss the smell of newly brewed coffee. I smiled absentmindedly in myself the moment I sat down on my usual spot.

I miss the comfort of this couch.

For the past weeks, I've been home in our province. The semester ended and I spent my sem break home. Mama is so excited about me coming home kaya naman sa last day mismo ng sem ay pinauwi na nya kaagad ako.

And she seems to miss me that much na ngayon nya lang talaga ako pinabalik kung kelan bukas na ang simula ng second sem namin. Because of that, I have a lot things to do. Especially in cleaning my apartment.

Tumayo ako para umorder sa counter at natigilan ako ng makita na hindi na si Tammy yung nandoon. I'm certain that it should be her shift today. Nagdala ako ng pasalubong para sa kanya kaya din ganitong oras ako pumunta.

The guy barista smiled at me while taking my order that's why I smiled back.

"I haven't see you here before." I said sheepishly.

Tumaas ang kilay nya kaya mabilis akong napaiwas ng tingin. I bit my lip before clearing my throat.

You know how embarassing it was to suddenly talk to someone you don't really know and regret it later for sounding too friendly when you're not even friends?

That's how I feel right now.

"I'm new here." he said. Tumango tango na lang ako.

"I see. Uhm..." I trailed off. He looked up at me and arched his brow while still smiling.

I wonder if smiling is part of their job description. All of the barista I know is always smiling at me.

"Do you know where Tammy is? The cute little girl who used to work this shift?" I asked.

Sandali syang napaisip sa tanong ko.

"Ah, yes. Nagpapalit sya ng schedule dahil sa school nya. Bakit?"

I shrugged my head and smiled.

"Nothing. Nanibago lang ako."

Kinagat ko ang pang-ibabang labi ko at bumalik na sa upuan ako. Mula dito ay tanaw ko pa syang ginagawa ang order ko. I sighed.

Sayang yung pasalubong ko kay Tammy.

I took out my laptop and start doing my things while waiting for my order. For today, I'll be reading my subjects in advance. I am not confident of finishing all my subjects today but I think I'll start with my majors.

I downloaded some pdf files available for my subjects and arrange my folder. Last sem was hard. I remember crying over a failed quiz. But then, it's over now. I am looking forward to new subjects that hopefully, doesn't involve math this time.

The barista called my name and I got up to get my order. As usual, he greeted me with his smile. I smiled back.

"Nice headband by the way." he said when I hold my tray.

Nag-init ang pisngi ko. I chewed my lip and bow my head.

Mama gave me this headband before I move back here. It's nice and aesthetic. Parang tali lang na itinali sa ulo. But then, it's big. I never wear headband before until today.
