Chapter 3
Unknown number:
You didn't text me.
I chewed my lip to prevent myself not to smile upon seeing a text message from unknown number. I actually have a gut feel who this is.
It was sent last night around 9:30 pm and I was already dozing off to sleep that time. And now, as I am preparing to go to the university, I found this unopened text message.
Umayos ako ng upo bago nagtipa ng sagot.
Ako:
How did you get my number?
I hit sent and I don't know why I can't stop myself from smiling. To distract myself, I just make myself an oatmeal for breakfast. Kahit nasa malayo ako, sinisiguro ni Mama na maayos ang kinakain ko kaya palagi nya akong pinapadalhan ng pang-groceries and she's even sending me list of what I should buy.
But looking inside my fridge now and the dinner I had last night, I need to remind myself to buy groceries immediately.
I immediately put the milk down and grab my phone over the counter.
Unknown number:
Tammy.
Unknown number:
You replied. So that means you're safe.
I smiled.
Ako:
I am.
Now, I don't even know what to put on his name because I don't know what his name is. But I cannot help myself but to smile at the thought of him worrying about me. Not that I want people around me to always worry about my whereabouts.
It's just that, it is so overwhelming to find new friends in new place.
My phone rang. For a moment, my heart pounded so fast thinking that I'll see an unknown number. But then, I heave a deep sigh seeing that it's just Tupe.
"Good morning!" masiglang bati ko. Tupe chuckled on the other line.
"Whoa. Sana all mataas ang energy." pang-aasar nya. Umiling iling iling ako habang natatawa.
"Anong ganap sayo? Bakit ka napatawag?" tanong ko habang nagsismulang kumain.
There's a pause on the other line and I heard some sounds clinking. I guess he's also making his breakfast now.
"Nothing much. Just finished some plates."
"Talaga? Patingin." excited na sabi ko. Natawa si Tupe sa kabilang linya.
"Wag na. Hindi pa ako ganoon kagaling."
"Still, I want to see! Wait, I'll video call you." mabilis na sabi ko at bago pa man sya makaangal sa akin ay pinatay ko na ang tawag.
Mabilis akong lumipat sa messenger bago sya tinawagan. He declined my first call so I sent him an angry emoji.
