Things had been tense between Y/N and Tyler ever since Switzerland- they had gotten back from the trip less than a week ago but they were barely speaking. It wasn't without trying however, whenever Y/N tried to talk to Tyler, he would be short with his answers- and then when he softened and tried to talk to her, she would be annoyed with him and refuse to speak at all.
They weren't getting anywhere and Tyler could see that the relationship was crumbling- nothing was working, the angry sex they had did nothing to fix the problems- sending a long text and apologizing was seen as cowardice in Y/N's eyes and like a cheap way out. Nothing was going to plan, and the longer they were angry, the faster Y/N went back to her old ways.
It took so long for Tyler to break down her walls and really fall for the real person she was- but it was obvious she hadn't totally let go of that person yet. Being around her family- he started to see all the little confrontations she had with her parents when she thought he wasn't around.
The senator and his wife constantly questioned Y/N's decisions, they questioned her choice in clothing, taste in men and even how she ran the company- it was tough to watch- but had explained why Y/N pretended she was so tough and empty of emotions a majority of the time. Her parents had taken so much out of her that she wanted to be alone- keep people away from her so that they wouldn't be disappointed.
The woman Tyler cared for was no longer wearing jeans and sneakers- she had put herself back into the tight dresses and pencil skirts, heels and blazers- she looked too rigid and like she was constantly uncomfortable- but anytime Tyler or Jamie tried to ask if she was aright, she would glare at them and stomp off- telling them to just do heir jobs and forget about her.
Tyler hadn't done any better, he was exhausted constantly and was getting any chance to move on or grieve over the relationship- he had to be with Y/N all the time and with her father's upcoming press conference, her schedule called her to different parts of the city daily- it was tough work but he had been doing his best to stay out of her way and at least put things back to a civil standing.
Tapping her foot anxiously in the elevator, Y/N was going over her father's speech for the third time that week- he kept making changes and didn't like how it was written- it was "too formal" or "too lenient" as he would say- this speech was supposed to make him look good and like he actually cared, but it was far from the truth.
The man couldn't stop blaming others for the reason as to why the country was becoming a mess- He had plans to make things in the state better, but in reality it was built on false promises and only made the elite better- he was having the middle class and lower class to suffer while he sat comfortably on his riches.
Tyler peaked over at Y/N and cleared his throat- his hands were clasped in front of him- a dark grey suit covering every inch of his body- with his gun on his hip and his fist firm against his chest- he decided now that they were in the elevator, he might be able to talk to his girl without her running away from him.
"So- You're really going to help him with this conference?" He decided to break the ice- using her father as a way to ease himself into the conversation. Becoming met with a slight glare- he sighed, maybe not.
"He's my father- He is the senator. If I don't do it, no one else will" she answered him shortly. Her tone was tense and dripping with venom- her shoulders were stiff as she clenched the file against her chest, she was beyond stressed out and being with Tyler was making everything worse.
"Are you going to stay mad at me? This relationship isn't going to work if we don't make up." Tyler frowned, they had never really said that they were over- but they also hadn't clarified if they were still together. Thats why Tyler was so frustrated, he knew that Y/N was mad at him but he didn't know wether or not they were still together.
All he wanted was an explanation on where they stood in their relationship.
Y/N scoffed- letting her head fall back and press into the wall of the elevator, her eyes were closed for a moment before she blinked back a few tears- her voice getting choked up as she convinced herself to stay strong. Biting her lip, she straightened herself up and sighed. "What relationship Tyler?" She spoke sarcastically. "I don't even think we could call what we had a relationship- we hooked up on more than one occasion and slept at each others place... We didn't go out to dinner- we didn't hang out with friends- we had sex and that was it." She forced herself to spit out.
It was like she was entirely forgotten about the morning they shared in his apartment after the party- or the times they cuddled on his couch and watched movies, surely everything they did ended in sex- but Tyler thought it at least meant something to her.
"You don't mean that- We had sex and it was great, but we also spent time together." He reminded her- it hurt him to hear her say such things, she knew that she was struggling to process her feelings- but that didn't make it any easier.
Y/N was becoming more and more frustrated as the conversation went on- scoffing, she knew she had to end this here and now. Slamming her hand into the elevator panel- she stopped the elevator, the shaft coming to a stop as they paused between floors.
Spinning around and looking at him, her eyes were filled with a flame that Tyler had never seen before- she was so emotional and straight that he didn't know what to do.
"Listen- cause I'm only going to say this once." She began, walking towards him and pressing him into the wall- he couldn't help but remember their first introduction, how she had pressed herself to him in the entrance of her home- it was such a different atmosphere then compared to now, and the man found himself wishing that he could go back in time to that day instead of where they were now.
"We spent time together because you work for me, we had sex because we wanted to- all it was, was sex Tyler. There were no dates, nothing- the feelings were an accident and it was a mistake, it never should have happened." She felt her bottom lip tremble, swallowing harshly she straightened herself out.
Pressing the elevator button again, they started to move- heading up the floor her office was on. "We aren't boyfriend and girlfriend... You were my bodyguard and nothing more-" once the door opened she walked out, Tyler awestruck as he watched her.
Holding the door, he looked at her with wide eyes- "Wait- were?" His heart stopped- he could believe what he was hearing. Noticing the girl shift and hesitate, he prayed that she would stop herself.
"I no longer require your services Mr.Seguin... You're free to leave." The tears welled up in her eyes as she faced him, Tyler's arm dropping from the door as he looked at her solemnly- the door closed slowly, Y/N disappearing from his view.
