"I may have forgotten to mention that the camps are the only safe places on earth for demigods." Percy says. "Camp half-blood has a magical barrier that keeps out the monsters and bad weather out."
We are standing at the top of the hill where I get a better look at the dragon and the ivory statue next to it, of what I assume is a goddess holding out her hand which held another, smaller statue of another goddess with wings. Something in the tree catches my attention.
"Is that...?" I start to ask in doubt.
"The Golden Fleece." Percy confirms. "And that is our guardian of the fleece, Peleus." He points to the dragon that regards us then curls back up to sleep. "The fleece strengthens the camp barrier along with the Athena Parthenon." He points to the statue. My gaze then falls on the camp itself and I momentarily forget how to breathe. At the bottom of the hill is a regular three story farmhouse, painted sky blue and across from that are strawberry fields. Just after the house is a volleyball court where some teenagers, all in orange t-shirts are playing a game of basketball. Beyond the court in a small section of the camp a group of campers, again all teenagers in orange t-shirts and jeans, seem to be doing crafts. All the more modern day things end there. An open air amphitheater stood at the bottom of small hill, on the top of that hill is a platform with greek style marble columns. The hill over looks sand dunes which I assume lead to the North Shore of Long Islands. Behind the amphitheater I make out part of a wall with an orange, glowing liquid like substance flowing down. To one side a cluster of oddly assorted buildings seem to be cabins, ranging in style from a regular old wooden cabin to a marble building resembling a bank, if the bank was built in ancient Greece. One of the buildings even looks like a life size barbie doll house. Forests spread out to each side of the camp. I make out an arena and stables also a building that seems to be a forge and an armory next to that. More teens practice their archery in an archery range near the strawberry fields. Campers fly around on what looks like flying horses, while others chase each other yelling or milling around the cluster of buildings. A few more campers are standing among the strawberries. In the midst of all this is a lake where more teens are canoeing or swimming around and splashing each other. I even notice a cave on another small hill behind the cabins near the forest.
"Wow." I managed to get out as I remember how to breathe.
"Come on let me introduce you to Chiron." Percy says and leads me down toward the farmhouse. We make our way to the back on the wrap around porch and let me just say, the camp is even more breathtaking up close.
"Chiron." I hear Percy say so I turn my attention to the table where two men are sitting playing a card game. A half man, half goat? stands next to one of the men nervously holding a tray of grapes.
One of the men turns to us. He has brown hair and eyes that match. "Ah, Percy." The middle aged man in a wheelchair says. He seems not to notice me standing behind Percy. "Welcome back."
"Thanks Chiron." Percy says. He then launches right into the story of meeting me. Chiron who just notices me listens closely til the end.
Halfway through, the other man glances up from his cards. His eyes, purple flames in hollow, black sockets, narrow at me. I gasp softly but otherwise I stay quiet.
The man with the fire instead of eyeballs is short, I can tell even though he's sitting down and he is chubby. He's dressed as though he is on vacation in Hawaii with a purple, loudly patterned shirt, matching shorts and purple trainers on his feet. The hybrid next to him with the grapes is only wearing an orange t-shirt with camp half-blood printed on the front along with a picture of a flying horse.
