Chapter 5: All good things must come to a end

Chapter5: All good things must come to a end

Damon remembers the sinking feeling deep inside his stomach, as he gets Stefan up and to the falls non the wiser to his plan. He climbs up to her window and knocks gently. His greeted with her soft smile as he motions for her to follow. She does so without question placing her smaller hand into his large one . "I'm not seeing you tomorrow am I," it's  more of a statement than a question and in reply he squeezes her hand.

 

"It's not forever Damon , promise" she adds as they continue their walk. He doesn't speak much to anyone but her. He try's to remember everything about her. Like the way her hair curls into perfect little ringlets down to her waist. How her smile makes the world seem brighter. How her laugh is a little off key. He wants it to burn into his memory like a catchy song. The beams of sun brings a end to their little camp,and he feels that sinking worsen.

when she leaves,tears trail in her wake. She was right he didn't see her off. Instead he stares at the scene bottom his bedroom window. He sees her car drive off until it dissapears at a turn. He doesn't talk to anyone for weeks after that. He becomes so distant that even Stefan can't reach out to him.

He spends his time with nameless girls and is known as the heartbreaker in high school. A year later his mother calls him and Stefan downstairs. "Katherine sent letters," she smiles softly at her sons producing two letters one addressed to Stefan another for himself. Stefan takes the letter hastily and opens it as he takes a seat on the couch. Damon eyes the offending paper warily before gingerly taking  it with shaking fingers. He goes  to his room for privacy. The letter tells him of her whole year away. She doesn't like it much. Her father is cold and distant, her twin Elena is "miss perfect". He smiles at her words and at the very end she tells him how much she misses her mom, Stefan and himself as well as Caroline and the rest. This pains him in the worst way as he trails his fingers over her words as if it's the same as having her there with  him.

For the first time since she left,he goes to his mother and cries and with soothing words she tries to comfort him.Stefan tells Damon about his letter  from  her how she is doing well and her family is good to her there."She didn't tell him the truth"  Damon thinks internally as he listens to his brother.

Even now she tries to protect him and he cannot blame her for this kindness towards Stefan.

As time goes on the letters increase,it keeps him alive through her absence but all good things must come to an end....
