Chapter 8: Movies, twins and college

She remembers the last time she was so close to Stefan before they started drifting.

She brushes away a few tears from her cheek, his arms wrapped around her.

He chuckles softly and she glares as more tears run down her cheeks. Stupid tears she curses mentally. "Kat , its only a movie,"

She playfully punches his shoulder. " You know its one of my favourite movies of all time," she defends smiling all the while. He pulls her in once again it felt like old times , watching movies laughing everything was so easy with her.

"Its kinda like us in a way," he says after taking the movie out. It was a Friday night and everyone had plans but them so they decided to have a movie night . She got to choose the movie. Which happened to be Forrest Gump .

It had been so long since he last seen it, since she left . "How are we like Jenny and Forrest?" she questions, tilting her head staring up at him with curious eyes.

"We go together like peas and carrots," he answers. Her heart jumps at his words. " We do ,don't we?" she questions herself more than him.

He was her knight from all she left behind , he was her everything. Till this day Damon would tease her "Every time you look at him , its like you have stars in your eyes," he would joke causing her to protest and blush pink with embarrassment. There are many reasons she remembers Forrest Gump with Stefan, One of them being the events after...

As December went by Damon went through the daunting task of sorting through acceptance letters. Much to everyone's surprise (except Katherine and Stefan) Damon had gotten acceptance to the top universities to study law. Money wasn't an object for his education so he had opportunities only few could ever dream of. The only thing stoping him was his girl Kat ( whether she knew this or not).

*FLASHBACK *

She runs into his arms like she did all those years before crying and shaking a bundle of mess. He soothes her as she calms down. "Kat?" he questions her softly but she doesn't respond. Instead she wraps her arms around his neck and kisses him , its hard and forceful. But she tastes just as sweet as he imagined and her lips are soft , so soft that he kisses back just for a second or more. Until he realizes the tears and her shaky body in his embrace. When he pulls away she clings to him her head buried into his shoulder her body still shaking.

"I love you , I love you , I love you," she says repeatedly almost hysterically. As if he would leave her. His heart drops as the next words leave her lips. " His with Elena," she barely gets out. He holds her closer ,clings to her as his heart shatters.

*END FLASHBACK *

He knew it was never him , but that kiss gave him hope if only for a second. So when he sorts through universities he thinks of her. He doesn't want to leave he doesn't want her to torture herself by looking at the new couple. He wants her protected he wants her with him.

She keeps him close , they never talk about the kiss or what happened with her father. Instead they enjoy the winter snow together. She feels like he holds her together fits her broken pieces and makes her smile like she use to...

Come on Damon!!" she urges him excitedly. Dragging him along in the snow and once she finds a spot that seems good she falls back into the snow. "Kat ,we're not ten anymore ,your gonna get sick," he says as she makes snow angels. Without warning she pulls him down and he lands unexpectedly next to his girl. A chuckle escapes as he stares at her smiling at him all teeth and pink cheeks. " Your pretty strong for a girl," and she gives him a stern look for the comment and he immediately starts making snow angels. She laughs and he joins in their time together consists of them laughing, smiling and having fun. He never left her side and she never left his.

When he leaves for university, a good one, not too far from home. She's there to send him off with a smile . "Your going to be okay here?" he questions her. " I have Caroline, she'll be with me all the while stop worrying and just leave already before I take back what I just said," he looks at her seriously checking for any signs that he should stay. She sees this and reassures him " Don't look so serious Damon I'll be good promise," he nods smiling.

Greeting his family. As he loads his last bag into the car. He sees Stefan with his hand wrapped on Elena's waist and he shakes his head. He made his disappointment known when Stefan officially broke the news of his relationship with the knock off, Damon liked to call her. The brothers had been at ends but compromised by shoving the issue, aside.

He would miss Stefan , his family and friends. He couldn't lie though he felt excited at the thought of university. His father had never been more proud of him .

Things were sorting themselves out before his eyes lay his future the only thing missing was the broken teenage girl he loved.
