AN: Thanks to everyone who is reading, still reading my new story. I totally love you <3. Any constructive criticism is always welcomed, or ideas and comments (especially were ships are concerned). I will be time skipping a lot as this story will go through their time as tweens, teens, young adults and finally adults. All the kids are 10 turning 11. Except Damon who is 11 turning 12. Updates will be slow.

Disclaimer: I own nothing of tvd, if I did it would probably be a Stefan, Damon, Katherine triangle.

6 years later:

Chapter1: It’s a crush thing

“Come on Kat we’re going to be late,” Stefan called from downstairs. Caroline laughed at Stefan’s attempt at getting her friend to hurry up. Katherine races down the stairs a few minutes later. “Do you have to take so long?”  Stefan asked shaking his head at the insanity of her. “It’s the first day of a new school year you have to look your best,” she explained with an over dramatic sigh. Stefan looks at Caroline hoping for some back up. “She’s kinda right …sorry Stefan,” it’s been 6 years since Stefan moved into town and his best friends were girls and not even tomboys but girly girls, but he wouldn’t change it for all the candy and fizzy drinks in the world.

“Do you think Nick would like this?” Care asked nervously examining her outfit. Which was basically an oversized jersey with a teddy bear and a pair of black jeans with yellow neon pumps for a bit of color. Kat looked at the outfit dutifully before nodding. “Boys are dumb Care I don’t think they know much,” Kat said finally. That’s when a look of realization came across Care’s face nodding with her statement, yet a bit saddened that her hard work was for nothing. Well not for nothing entirely it was the first day of a new school year so this made her brighten up. “And I’m what exactly?” Stefan asked offended. “Yourdifferent Stef, you’resmarter than the rest of those boys,’’ Care told him politely. He nodded in false understanding wondering what went on in their heads then inwardly shuddered at the thought of all the pink and glitter there might be.

Luckily they were all in the same class. All hell would break loose if it was any other way. Stefan remembers the in the 2nd grade how on their first day he and Kat were in separate classes from Care. Kat threw on a world class performance act. She went up to our teacher and cried her eyes out saying Care was her best friend and she needed her in the same class. At first the teacher was hesitant but right at that moment another teacher brought in a sniffling Care and both teachers decided best to keep us in the same class. You would think after this they would get bullied mercilessly but to their luck Damon was the most feared boy from 1st grade all the way to 3rd.Everyone one knew Kat and Care were under his protection so no one even dared to look at them wrong.

That was then though today was their first day of 5th grade. Kat and Care skipped along happily towards the school gates. While Stefan followed Care towards their usual group of friends which consisted of Matt, Tyler, Bonnie, and Jeremey. Kat made her way through a throng of 6th graders to find Damon only Kat was allowed to see him in school she was special. Stefan thought though it was more about how Damon was a total sucker for her doe like brown eyes.

“You know what I don’t get it,” Tyler confessed to the group while looking at Kat hugging the life out of Damon and Damon smiling happily at her. “She’s his best friend why wouldn’t he want her to say hi?” Care said like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “Yeah, but he won’t even let Stefan go up to him what makes her so different,” Matt added. To this Care was completely stumped frowning at the thought. “Maybe he likes her, likes her,” Jer said quietly as if was the worst thing in the world to this everyone looked at Stefan for an answer. “Don’t be gross Damon would never like a girl,” Matt interjected before Stefan could answer. To the group this seemed reasonable enough as they waited for Kat’s arrival.  “Hey!” she shouted cheerfully and everyone returned her greeting chatting away about what they did during the summer. Soon after the bell rang leaving Stefan with an unsettling thought was it really that bad to like a girl? He heard once Tyler, Matt, Jer and a few other boys his age talk about how weird girls were but he didn’t seem to get it. I mean they were all friends with girls and they were pretty cool well… for girls anyway. Did that mean he liked, liked girls? At this he made a face and concluded that he didn’t.

“Kat?” Caroline asked her friend quietly while they did their English work“yeah?” she questioned looking at the blonde friend.

“Is it weird that I like Nicklaus? I mean I know his in 6th grade and all but I don’t know I think I do,’’ she told her friend nervously. Kat couldn’t really see what the big deal with boys was or why almost every girl was starting to like them. Was she the only normal one around here? Or was she weird because she didn’t like anyone yet? “I don’t know Care I mean I don’t like anyone yet … but since all the other girls like them I think it’s normal,” Caroline nodded at this then looked at Kat strangely before asking. “What about Stefan and Damon don’t you like them?”

“No way … their like my best friends Care it would just be all weird and gross if I did,” she said confidently. But Caroline had a knack for seeing things differently than your average 10 year old. Somehow she doubted her friend. “Not even a little? What about Stefan?” Kat opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out. She then looked towards Stefan squinting her eyes in the slightest trying to figure this out herself. Then finally decided to say “I don’t know …Maybe?”

Later that day Kat found herself running into Damon’s arm sniffling. Damon wanted to cry as well seeing his friend so upset but held it back tightly holding the little girl. “Kat what’s wrong?” he asked after she was able wipe away her tears. “I …. I … think I like someone,” Damon looked at her absolutely confused. She was crying because she liked someone? “Kat if you like someone there’s no reason to cry,” he explained gently to the distraught girl. “B… but it’s so gross and it’s Stefan,” Damon couldn’t help but chuckle at this. “His like my best friend,” she babbled on. “Kat its ok it normal to like someone,” she looked at him hopeful. “Even your best friend?” her lip wobbled a little at this. “Yes, even your best friend Kat,” he reassured her. She smiled up at him happily.

“Come on lets go wash your face you don’t want anyone to know you’ve been crying now would we?” she nodded in agreement grabbing Damon’s hand as they made their way to the tap outside. Even though Damon was only a year older than Katherine he took it upon himself to make sure she was alright. Even  though Katherine was a smart 10 year old who could seem much older at times she was also seemed so much younger when she was scared which was not very often.
