Chapter 1

Rose POV

Me and Lissa were on the run for about two years, we changed places every two weeks now we were in Portland and living with a college boy named Jeremy. He was human and Lissa was moroi because you see she is a vampire but the good kind but, she still needed to drink blood. So he was her personal feeder the first week I let her drink my blood but quickly changed that up since I needed to stay in shape and alert for any guardians(half vampire half human like me also called dhampires), strigoi(bad vampires) or even psi-hounds, we were chased by a dozen of those things last week and I had to kill them all. Good thing I "borrowed" two stakes and two guns when we left the academy. I was brought out of my thoughts when Oscar, Lissa's cat hissed at something outside. I went to look and saw a tall man looking at us I instantly knew he was a guardian, he noticed that I saw him and stepped back in the shadows.

"Lissa pack quickly not a drill we got to go!" I told her while packing my stuff up.

"Is it strigoi's again?" she asked while packing as fast as she could.

"No, guardians."

I grabbed my stakes and guns and put them into there holsters. I than grabbed my back pack, with my clothes inside, and a duffel bag with a few more weapons I picked up during our two years out into the world.

"You ready?" I asked.

"Yeah let's go"

I grabbed Jeremy's car keys and a bottle of alcohol, we went outside and I opened a the gaz thank of a motorcycle put a cloth inside poured alcohol on it set it on fire and started the motorcycle in the direction of two guardians in the street. We got out of our hiding spot and went into the direction of the car, we were than circled by half a dozen guardians. I shoved Lissa behind me, did I mentioned she is the last of her royal line and she is a princess, yeah well let's just say when we ran away it was tough to hide from all the guardians. I got into a fighting position and waited for the first one to attack, two ran at me and it was easy I used there momentum, height and weight against them and they were out like a light after I was done with them.

"Is that all you got I thought guardians are supposed to be the best but turns out a novice can beat them!" I said I wouldn't be Rose Hathaway if I didn't add a bit of attitude.

I saw in their faces that I was hitting a nerve. Than Alberta came towards me, she is like a mother to me and is the head guardian at St-Vladimir academy, this was going to be a weird fight. She came at me and went for my head to knock me out but I was faster and punched her in the stomach I saw her bend forward slightly I may of have went to hard, I whispered "Sorry". I then swept her legs from under her and knocked her out. There was three guardians left but the other man who was starring at us earlier wasn't here so I'm expecting him to come soon.

The other three came at me at the same time, I think they thought if they were more I couldn't take them out, wrong. As they got closer I recognized them it was Stan, Yuri and Celeste they are guardians at the academy. I punched Stan and he was already knocked out cold, than Yuri came and he was a bit tougher to beat and was also getting a little tired but I finally managed pin him and knock him out and than there was Celeste. I was about to attack when I heard something in the alley to my right, Lissa was still behind me and I got closer to her just in case, it was the man I saw from our window and he said.
"Princess Vasilissa Dragomir my name is Dimitri Belikov, I've come to take you back to St-Vladimir's academy," the tall guy boomed

"Listen Comrade to get to her you'll have to go through me," I told him.

I ran towards him and fainted to the right but did a roundhouse kick to his left and he actually fell for it but it didn't faze him. He went to punch me on the shoulder but I blocked him, we exchanged hits for about fifteen minutes. But I got my opening I pinned him and knocked him out cold. And of course, because I wasn't tired enough five strigoi came into the street. I went straight back to Lissa, Celeste was still standing so she helped me get rid of them I took care of four and she took down one. I heard a shot behind me and saw that Stan shot me with a tranquilizer. I had the chance to ask Lissa to tell them to never take my duffel bag away from me before I passed out.

I woke up handcuffed to the car door.

"Handcuffs really there's gotta be a complement in there somewhere,"I said.

Lissa snickered in the back and sent something through the bond and I exploded in laughter. All the guardians looked at me as if I was crazy.

"Hey Stan!" I called out.

"What Hathaway," he responded exasperated.

"Did you have to shoot me with a tranquilizer?"

"Yes Hathaway I did it was the only way to bring the princess back to the academy," he explained in the same tone.

"And what if strigois came and attacked her you were all knocked out cold except Celeste so who would've protected the princess against an army of strigoi?"

This time the Russian answered I think his name was Dimitri.
"If you would've ran into strigoi we wouldn't be having this conversation," he said while scratching his neck and I saw his molnija marks.

"One you'd be surprised what I can do, ask Celeste. Two you were out cold so you don't know what happened after and three six molnija marks impressive, I never got marked for my kills," I told him while silently undoing the cuffs.

"You had your first kills?" he asked in his heavy Russian accent.

"Yeah," I looked in the back and asked Lissa, "how many do I have now?" She thought for a minute and said.

"3 in New York, 2 in Salem, 4 in Florida and another 4 last night so you are at 13 kills now"

The faces the guardian made were hilarious.

"Close your mouths you're going to catch flies," I said while laughing.

"How can you have so much kills at such a young age?" asked Dimitri.

"Strigoi are interested in the last Dragomir I guess," I said simply.

With that the rest of the drive was silent when we got to the gates of the school I sensed something was wrong it was too silent. Dimitri called for the gates to be opened but it was radio silence. During the drive I had managed to finish uncuffing myself so I was ready if anything happened. Than all of a sudden a strigoi jumped in front of the car all the guardians got out and I turned to Lissa.

"Stay in the car and don't come out until a guardian or I come to get you ok,"I told my best friend and she nodded.

I took out my stakes one in each hands and got out of the car. Once I was out two strigoi came at me, I could tell by the way they were fighting that they were ancients. I finally got my opening on one and staked it and a few seconds after I got the other one. I thought I was done boy was I wrong now they were five at me. They were younger so they were easier to kill. After about ten minutes the five were dead, I saw that the other guardians were done and I walked over to Dimitri.

"So Comrade what do we do now?"

"Now Rose we get to the academy and we need to get you marked how many did you kill tonight?" He asked me as we went back to the SUV.

I counted in my fingers and said.

"Seven kills."

He stayed silent and we sat back in the car and drove through the gates.
