Chapter 3

Rose POV

Alberta called it and we started circling each other, I tuned out all the noise and focused on the fight. He went for a jab and ducked to sweep my feet from under me but I managed to flip over him and landed behind him. I went to kick him in the back but he turned over and grabbed my foot I had one thought in my head "poor him". I got used for strigoi to grab my kicks so now I have a special technique when it happens. I jumped in the air whilst he still had my foot in his hand and turned at the same time, that made him lose his grip and I landed on my feet.

Dimitri POV

I was slowly starting to regret suggesting to spare with her, that beautiful women, wait did I say beautiful I can't think that she's a student and seven years younger that me. Great I was starting to fall for a student that is not good and by the way she is fighting I'm not sure if I can consider her a student, her techniques are flawless and her kill number is just not normal for a novice. I got two kills earlier tonight so my count is at eight and hers is at twenty-three it's scary and I asked to fight her I'm as good as dead. I was brought back to my fight when she kicked me on the side it bloody hurt too. I dodged her next punch and finally managed to hit her in the stomach but of course she didn't even flinch.

- Come on Comrade you were better earlier in Portland, she said in a snarky way.

- Haha, I said sarcastically.

- Well I'm only stating the truth, she said as she landed a kick at my head how she managed to kick that high I don't know I have at least a foot taller than her.

I saw a few black spots from her kick but recovered quickly, well looks like I'm going to be bruised tomorrow.

Rose POV

He may not have said it out loud but I could see he was getting tired, I was too after my kills and fighting the guardians was starting to get to me. All of a sudden I felt Lissa getting mad, oh boy that's going to complicate things or help me I'm not sure. I learned from Mark and Oksana a couple who Lissa and me met in Baia they were really nice, and turns out that Oksana had the same type of magic as Lissa and Mark was bonded to her as I was to Lissa. He explained to me that we were shadow kissed which means we had died and were healed by a spirit user, Lissa's magic. So we were forever connected to them and could take the darkness away from them, the darkness was a side affect of spirit and it was our job to take it away from them. And that was exactly what I had to do now so I concentrated on her darkness and started absorbing it from her so she wouldn't hurt herself or others. That gave me extra energy all my rage that was built up in the last few days I let it out before I gave myself to the darkness, I saw fear in Dimitri's eyes he must've noticed the change of colour in mine. After I let it take control I went all out.

Dimitri POV

I saw her eyes change from the beautiful brown to deep black and I knew what that meant, I saw it once happening to Mark a family friend and it was bad. I didn't even have the time to react she came straight at me and I knew I had to stop her or she would hurt someone most likely herself. I managed to avoid a few punch and kicks but they were faster and stronger than before. I was sure I had an opening to pin her body was I wrong and it hurt a lot

Rose POV

I should've known that I would hurt him in this fight especially after I took the darkness. He thought he had an opening but I was faster than him and grabbed him before he had the chance to move I swept his feet from under him and heard a snap from my leg who was supporting me and that snap brought me back from the darkness. I knew I broke something probably my ankle when I do my technique to get out of someone's grip and continue to fight after it I usually just sprain it but now I knew it was broken. In the adrenaline of the moment I didn't feel the pain but once I pinned him the pain got me.

- And Rose is the winner! screamed Alberta.

Everyone cheered and clapped but man was my ankle hurting. I got up on one foot and handed my hand to Dimitri to help him up and he took it.

- Good match, he said.

- Thanks it was fun but now if you'll excuse me I'll go to my room to get some sleep I haven't slept in over twenty-four hours.

- No you're not, Dimitri said as I was about to take a step.

- And why not Comrade.

-Because you broke your ankle, that technique you did in the beginning hurt you slightly but as you kept fighting you kept injuring it more, he said.

- Ok fine I'll go to the infirmary but you're coming to I'm pretty sure I broke a few of your ribes.

- Deal let's go, he said and picked me up and put me over his shoulder because of course he knew I couldn't walk on a broken ankle.

I saw the novices laugh at me because Dimitri was carrying me like a sac of potatoes but I sent them a death glare and they stopped immediately.

- So Roza while you were breaking your friends bones earlier in practiced I talked to Alberta and she said you will receive your marks tomorrow at 5 in the moroi morning, I groaned.

- 5 is way to early to wake up Comrade but fine just this once.

- I also asked if you could train with me before and after school since you are already ahead of the other novice and that way you could have a bit more challenge and we could ask other guardians to try and fight with you. What do you think Roza?

- I think it's a good idea but what time do I have to be up for that?

- You should wake up at 6 so we can have an hour before school and you could come to the gym for another hour after school.

- I'm good with that and can you put me down now we're in the infirmary.

He put me down and he as he holds me so I won't fall. We get to the receptionist and she tells us to go into room 036. There were two beds I took one and Dimitri took the other. We started talking about Russia but all of a sudden I was pulled into Lissa's head she was kinda mad but also sad. I pulled the darkness from her and instantly felt her feeling better, I than noticed she was heading towards the chapel's attic. She was now at the top of the stairs she opened the door to gun Christian Ozera, a royal moroi but his parents turned strigoi willingly a few years back, they started arguing about the attic being there special place. I finally was able to pull out of her head and came back to my own body. I was a bit disoriented at first but then I noticed Dimitri in front of me.

- Roza you're back what was that all about?

- It's fine Comrade with the bond when Lissa is feelings are too strong I get pulled into her head, that's all. And before you asked what happened when we were sparring I pulled all the negative in her and put it inside me, we call it the darkness.

- Wow, was all he said.

- So Rose my favourite patient what can I do for you? Asked doctor Olendski.

- Broken ankle, I said simply.

- Alright what colour do you want your cast?

- Black as always.

- That's what I thought.

She took me to surgery to replace my ankle when I came woke up after he was still by my side.

- So Comrade what did she give you for your ribs?

- She gave me antibiotics for the pain and told me to take it easy for the next month since you didn't fully break them they should heal fairly quickly.

- Good when can I leave? I asked the doc as she came in.

- You can leave now but please take it easy in the next few weeks.

- I will bye doc.

With that we left and I headed to my room on crutches for some very well needed sleep.
