Peter > The next time I see you bothering Lucy, Loan, we'll settle it between us. And I guarantee you that you would rather not have my family on your back.
Even if he's right, Loan was just worrying about me, he isn't all bad... Peter then squeezes my hand in his and pulls me further away. He looks worried.
Peter > Lucy, even if I like it that you stand up for us, you must first think about your health! You're only just better!
> But he was talking rubbish, I couldn't let him get away with it!
Peter > We're used to that kind of thing, it's not the first time or the last time he'll say something bad about us. The people of this city and the students of this college don't like us, I'm sorry but that's the way it is. You'll have to get used to it...
If Peter asks me to, I'll keep quiet, even if it costs me!
> All right, I won't get mad at him anymore...
Peter gives me a small, resigned smile. Just then Dorothy turns up. She walks straight past me, deliberately ignoring me. Some people, really...
Dorothy > Peter, we haven't seen you for two days, where were you?
It's true that while I was recovering, Peter stayed with me at home. He played me the piano and brought me food... I would have liked never to leave the house again!
Peter > Yes, I was busy.
Dorothy pouts and finally turns to me.
Dorothy > I was told you were sick, I hope you're better...
Oh, that sounds so sincere! Gifted on the piano, less in acting!
Dorothy > So, you missed one of our rehearsals, Peter. Do you have time now?
> A rehearsal? What for?
Dorothy > We're both practicing for the school fete and I've convinced him to play in front of everyone!
She managed to convince him to do...that? He who's so discreet, so distant?
I'm really jealous that she has so much power over him. I could never have convinced him...
Dorothy > Okay, let's go!
Peter gives me a sorry look and finally follows the young woman. I stay on my own for a moment, feeling a little bitter. Those two looks really close. Am I losing all my chances of winning Peter?
A little later in the day, I'm meeting up with Sarah for a coffee. I finish classes earlier today, so I might as well make the most of it to see my friend. I join her quickly, she's waiting for me already. She's promised to take me back home after, that'll be a first! Since the day I followed the voices in the abandoned house, I'm a little afraid to go home alone. When she sees me, she gives me a wave. I join her and sit facing her.
Sarah > Lucy! It's good to see you, really... How are you feeling?
> Sorry to have worried you so much, Sarah, it's never happened to me before to faint like that...
She seems really worried and she bites her lip as if she's hesitating to speak.
Sarah > Lucy, I wanted to ask you... If something serious happened with the Bartholy family, you would tell me, huh?
Here we go again...
> Listen Sarah, for the umpteenth time I'll say it again, the Bartholys didn't do anything to me.
Sarah > It's just that it worries me, you said it yourself, It's never happened before!
> I think I know why I fainted...
She looks at me attentively, obviously troubled by what happened.
> The day before, I heard voices, I followed them and found myself in an abandoned house... The ghosts kept telling me that they were in danger, that someone was going to attack them. Since I couldn't help them or understand them, they got upset and it was as if they... attacked me.
Sarah > What, can you be attacked by the dead?
> I'm not sure yet... But when Peter arrived, they also attacked him...
I'd like to know more about what happened that night. What did the spirits want? That I save them? To warn me of something?
Sarah > That story is really scary... We need to learn more about your powers before it puts you in danger.
I nod silently, lost in my thoughts. Am I able to intervene to help soul remnants? Sarah looks at me intensely for a moment without saying anything. What is she thinking?
Sarah > You're really amazing, Lucy. I've never met someone as brave as you.
Her compliment makes me blush. Am I really brave? I'd like to be, in any case.
> It's not really courage, you know, I didn't have a choice...
Sarah > Even if you don't have a choice, there are plenty of people who'd go mad in your position. You're serene, you take things as they come. Believe me, you are really amazing!
This is the first time someone's complimented me so much... I'm glad she thinks I'm someone extraordinary. With all that has happened to me, these compliments warm my heart.
We talk for a moment about everything and nothing, classes, the coming fete, the other students.
Sarah > Oh, by the way, I chatted a bit with Dorothy, the new girl from Transylvania, she's pretty nice!
> Do you think so? I feel like she hates me.
Sarah > She seems pretty close to Peter, I keep seeing them together in the music room.
Thanks for turning the knife in the wound, Sarah!
> Yes, she's passionate about the piano and plays very well, like him.
Sarah > She told me that she'd managed to convince him to perform in public for the festival, this is the first time Peter's accepted something like that.
What's she getting at? Can't she see that them being close hurts me?
> I'm a little sad that he prefers spending time with her rather than being with me.
Sarah > Lucy, when are you going to open your eyes? You are really not made for each other!
Her remark annoys me. Friends help each other, don't they? They don't question everything like that.
> Sarah, I already told you, I really like Peter, I'd like to be closer to him.
Sarah gets up suddenly, her fists clenched, looking really upset.
Sarah > You annoy me going on about him, you only talk about him, you only think about him! And me in all of that? If that's the way it is, you should go home with him! Oh no, sorry, he's with Dorothy.
> Sarah, calm down, I thought we were able to discuss everything.
She seems to hesitate for a moment but ends up leaving the café, without a word. I sigh. We really need to have a calm discussion about how we feel. I get up, pay the bill and also leave the café. It's already dark. I walk a moment through the streets, but I have a strange feeling that I'm being followed. I must be becoming paranoid, since the abandoned manor incident. I start to walk a little faster. I throw a look over my shoulder, and in the shadows, I spot a silhouette quickly disappear down a side street. Am I really being followed? Who is it? I walk even faster. I hear footsteps behind me. They're getting closer! I'm paralyzed by fear. What's happening? I have to run, but I can't. The sound of footsteps gets closer and closer... Oh no!
