She smiles at me as she lays the tray on the bed. She sits next to me, and I can feel the warmth of her body against mine.

Sarah > Don't worry, make yourself at home! After all, we did come back to read... Ah, you found the book on the history of our beautiful city. I guess you must have questions.

She sighs and takes the book from me, flipping through the pages that she seems to have read dozens of times.

> You don't have to answer.

Sarah > I've already told you, my family's been here for generations. The Osborne's mentioned in this book, are my ancestors.

> Your ancestors were witches?

Sarah > They were burned alive because of it... It's not something I talk about

I can tell that she's upset I'm not sure that I should carry on. But curiosity gets the better of me.

> If you don't mind, I'd really like to know more about your origins.

She looks at me for a moment in silence. Her brown eyes seem to be looking into my soul. I feel intimidated

Sarah > Well, you see ghosts and... I've been practicing magic all my life. I guess you could say that I'm a witch, I don't know if I am one but, in any case, I believe that everything is possible in this world.

What? Is she a witch? Oh, and I thought I was weird. Deep down, I knew that Sarah was special. We got on so well, so quickly. I felt she was hiding something too.

Sarah > You don't seem that surprised.

> I am surprised, of course. I am, you've just told me that you're probably a witch, but I suspected something like that from the start.

I let out a deep sigh, trying to clarify my thoughts. A witch and a girl who can see ghosts. What a pair. I am so relieved that she believes what I just told her that I throw myself into her arms, without thinking. Quickly she responds to my hug, and I feel her face sink into my hair. I bury my face in her neck, breathing her sweet and delicate scent. I can hear her heart pounding. She's so sweet, so nice to me that I dare not stop hugging her. As we move away from each other, she's beaming! Her eyes are gleaming, and her cheeks are bright red. I try to get back to our initial conversation. Now that things are clearer between us, I have so many questions to ask.

> But then, what about the Bartholys?

Sarah > Viktor, Nicolae, Peter and Drogo's father, is a powerful man who has control over many things and people. Believe me, Lucy, they are really bad.

I don't agree with her. True, they're a little peculiar, but I never felt any real malice in them.

> Why do you hate them so much? They're not responsible for their father's doings. Peter, for example, he hasn't done anything to you.

She frowns and gets up, visibly annoyed.

Sarah > He might not have done anything to me but he's one of...them! He's necessarily bad, they all are.

> When you say "them", what do you mean exactly?

She's really gonna drive me crazy! She looks at me for a moment in silence, then she bites her lips, hesitating.

> After what I've just told you, you can tell me what's going on, can't you? I mean, I do live with them. You wouldn't want me to be in danger, would you?

Sarah > What I'm about to tell you is a secret, you must promise never to tell anyone. Ok Lucy? Also promise me not to run away.

I nod, ready to hear everything. I am not as innocent as she thinks.
