Peter > I played in front of a lot more people in the past.
> Do you mean when you were human?
Suddenly, the radiant expression on his handsome face turns cold.
Peter > Yes, when I was human.
He utters the words in a low, distant voice. Yet I can tell that that part of his life still haunts him today.
> Anyway, I can't wait to see you play tomorrow!
His face softens slightly. He seems more relaxed, obviously relieved that I don't push the subject. I hope that one day he'll feel comfortable enough to talk to me about it.
Peter > As for Sarah, I'm sure she'll come back to you. It's hard to stay away from you, Lucy.
He says it like he knows exactly what he's saying. My heart leaps at the thought that he, too, can't stay away from me... He straightens up and comes over to me. His eyes lock onto mine, and I'm hypnotized.
Peter > I have to go...
He seems to regret having to leave.
Peter > See you later, Lucy.
He gently lifts an almost translucent hand to my face and tenderly tucks a strand of hair behind my ear. He quickly turns away and vanishes down the long corridor. My heart is beating wildly. If that simple gesture puts me in such a state, I can't imagine how I'd react if one day he kissed me... I touch the spot where his cold fingers brushed my skin. It's like he's put a spell on me! I hope he's not meeting Dorothy. It's not like me to be so jealous. I need to control my feelings better. I sigh. Anyway, there's nothing I can do about it, so best not to think about it.
I stride through the corridors, headed for the cafeteria. I'm absolutely starving! I sit down at an empty table in the crowded cafeteria, my earbuds in. I notice that some people are looking at me strangely. I guess everyone knows I'm friendly with the Bartholys. I sight, a little annoyed. What's it to them that I live with the Bartholys? I'll never understand how people always want to interfere in the private lives of others. Not to mention how quickly they judge others. I can't stand that kind of behaviour. I look them straight in the eyes, determined to let them know exactly what I think of them. The murmurs quickly die down and they stop looking at me. I've almost finished my meal when someone sits in front of me. Sarah! Is she here to get angry or to make up?
Sarah > Lucy, I wanted to apologize for the other day. I realize now that I acted stupidly...
I try to say something but she signals me to listen.
Sarah > Before you say anything, please, let me finish.
I nod in silence, anxious.
Sarah > I've never trusted the Bartholys, ever since I was little, because our families are... well, anyway... It's hard for me to accept that a friend as close as you is so friendly with them... But I understand that to win the game, I need to accept it.
Win the game? What on earth is she talking about?
Sarah > I can't stand not being with you... it makes me really sad. Will you accept my apology?
> Of course, I will! I'm sorry if talking about them hurts you, but it's true that they're part of my life.
Sarah > Oh, I'm so relieved! I'll never get mad like that again, promise!
I smile at her, so glad that she still wants to be friends, and even that she accepts the fact I live with the Bartholys.
> I have to tell you something because it concerns us both. Loan followed me home after we had our argument.
