I must admit that his attitude surprises me. He remains calm, while I was expecting him to get angry.

Loan > It's just that I really don't like the Bartholys, like everyone else here. You're new to the city and they take advantage of it, especially Peter...

> Why does everyone think I'm naive and manipulable, I'm able to think for myself, you know!

Loan > You're nevertheless a pretty girl who's new in a city and you don't yet know the rules.

The concern he has for me and his compliments touch me. It's always nice to be courted from time to time.

> It's nice to worry about me, Loan. No hard feelings, but I think I can manage on my own.

Loan > They have a bad reputation here, and it's not for nothing. They're...weird!

> So? Lots of people are weird, it doesn't make them dangerous

Loan > You don't know everything, there are lots of rumours about them...

> What rumours?

This conversation is getting more interesting than I thought. Am I going to learn something new about the Bartholys? Are the inhabitants of Mystery Spell aware of their true nature?

Loan > You're going to think I'm inventing things or that I'm half crazy...

> Try me...

He looks at me seriously, his two blue eyes fixed on mine with intensity.

Loan > Some people think they're not...human

My heart almost stops beating, Loan. The somewhat stupid quarterback of the city, has doubts about the Bartholys humanity? How did he come to this conclusion? He seems to know things that I thought were secret, and it intrigues me.

> They're not human? Seriously? What do you think they are, then?

Loan > You're not making fun of me? I'm surprised... I don't know what they are yet but, believe me, they're hiding something... You live with them, so you're in danger.

> And who says that I, too, don't have superpowers?

Yes, I know, I like playing with fire... Loan looks at me and bursts out laughing. Does it sound that unlikely? I try to learn a little more. Is he one of those vampire hunters who want to exterminate the Bartholys?

> And that weird little idea that the Bartholys aren't human, where does it come from?

Loan > I can't tell you more for now. I'm not sure what's going on myself, but I'm sure of one thing: They're dangerous.

I shudder. All this is very suspicious. Loan is the kind of down to earth guy, with a normal life and the ideas that go with it. The fact that he's starting to have doubts on the nature of the Bartholy brothers, strengthens the idea that in this city there are two sides: that of the supernatural beings and that of the people who hunt them down, I feel like a human with paranormal abilities, nothing more... Yet, if there was a war, which side would I be on? Peter's arrival gets me out of my thoughts.

Peter > What are you doing with him?

His voice is grave, he's almost growling. Fists and jaw clenched; he really doesn't look happy!

> I was waiting for you, let's go.

After what happened with Sarah, I don't want to provoke another scene... I get up and approach him with a smile, trying to coax him. His eyes go back and forth between Loan and me. Loan gets up and comes between us. Shoot! Here we go again!
