“I’m not letting go” he reminded her as she was now lying across his lap with her body curled into his. His arms were wrapped tightly around her proving his words to be true.
“Can…. I stay here tonight please” her eyes were full of terror and pain. He knew his family weren’t going to be coming home again tonight due to their work schedules so he nodded and held onto her tighter.
After an hour of pure silence after Demi’s sobs soon faded, Wilmer noticed she was sleeping soundly against his chest. He gently lifted her up and put her where he’d been sitting and went into the kitchen to cook them something to what. He knew her well enough to know that she hadn’t eaten tonight after her stomach rumbled a few times earlier on.
When he was mixing the pasta in the saucepan he felt two arms wrap around his waist. He liked that feeling. It was like something he knew felt before; bliss. He could get used to it this. He nudged his head into hers.
She breathed in the scent of the cooking. “Mm what you cooking?” she asked.
“It’s a surprise” he turned and kissed her nose. She giggled.
“I don’t like surprises” she folded her arms tightly across her chest pouting at him knowing this was his weakness.
“That won’t work either” he kissed her pout and began adding a few herbs to the pasta dish in front of him. As he drained the pasta and added the other items he watched as she sat at the table with two glasses of water already laid out and the necessary condiments you’d want.
They sat down opposite each other; Wilmer presented the plate of food in front of Demi and watched as she took the first mouthful. She smiled, as she liked the taste. It tasted better than it smelt. “It’s a family recipe.” he explained. She nodded.
“Not that I don’t want you here, what happened tonight?” he asked. Despite how closed off Demi was he understood that sometimes she’d open up if she felt safe enough.
“I just needed to get away from toxic people I guess” she explained chewing a mouthful of pasta.
“I’m not toxic then?” he said with a smirk. He knew that was the best he’d get out of her yet it was enough. She chooses him out of everyone in her life that would always be enough for him.
“If you were would I be here” she grinned. He shook his head and took away both their empty plates and put them into the sink. Demi stood up and moved him with her hip, he laughed before questioning her,
“Let me wash up please, I mean you cooked it” she begged him. He nodded and kissed her forehead before disappearing upstairs to find her t-shirt she had claimed as hers from that first night.
She finished the washing up and rested the damp plates in the holder before wiping her hands with a dishcloth and walked upstairs where she knew Wilmer headed. She saw him changing and felt her cheeks blush. His chest was beautiful and defined. She’d never seen him so personally like this before.
“See something you like?” he winked and pulled the t-shirt over his head before walking over to her and pulling a t-shirt from behind his back for her. She kissed his cheek and went into his bathroom to change into it. It covered her knees because she was so short in comparison to him. She giggled as she came out.
