It had been exactly 2 hours since he walked out of the door. Despite her best thoughts she couldn't get the image of the way he slammed it shut as he left. The same way her father left her when she was younger. The two most important men in her life had both left her. She sat in the corner of the room with her knees tucked up against her chest tightly; she didn't care how long she'd been crying for, or if her make up had smudged. For such a while now she hadn't cared about anything except him. He was her world. She never planned for this to happen, she wanted to be like her mom, dependent, strong, driven yet right now she saw the girl who she was when she was a kid; she was scared, alone and vulnerable.

She noticed her mom come sit besides her against the wall. "He'll come back" She said confidently.

Demi didn't know what to believe anymore. "What if he doesn't mom?" her bottom lip quivered at the thought of never seeing him again. Never having him hold her at night whenever she felt alone. Who would listen to her crazy theories about aliens and unicorns and how they exist.

"Sweetheart, not everyone leaves---"

"Dad did..." She said bitterly.

They never spoke about it, nor did they address it. It was like the elephant in the room. It was forbidden until now. "Your father was unhappy" Dianna said. "We weren't happy anymore!" She explained. Demi sat up ready for her to continue the story she'd waited her whole life to hear.

"When you were younger it was better, we were still in love and did all the sweet things you and Wilmer do" She paused and swallowed hardly. "But when you got older and I wanted to go back to work and I wanted to see friends he didn't want that. He wanted to control me, I didn't let him. So he hit me a few times. The guilt overtook him and that's why he left" Demi leant her head against her mom. "Your father was a good man and don't ever think differently okay? But he was unhappy and now I know he's happy" She smiled despite the painful feeling in her chest.

"Why didn't he come back for me though?"

"I don't know darling, I wish I knew the answers but I don't" Dianna sighed. She always wanted to give Demi an answer, she deserved it but she couldn't. "I'll never leave you okay though!"

"I love you mom"

"I love you too" she kissed her daughter's forehead as she embraced her. She patted her hand on her daughter's leg. "Now, go find him and make it right"

"He doesn't want to see me mom" she huffed.

"How do you even know that? he was upset but remember today has been hard for him. He needs you"

"Thank you mom"

"For what?"

"For always saying the right thing" Demi kissed her mother's cheek and got up and headed out the door. She walked down the street knowing exactly where he'd be. His safe place.

Demi was nervous as she reached the abandoned home. What was once filled with love and furniture now contained bare walls and sheets covering everything ready for when the movers came in. the door was unlocked as she suspected so she went inside. She saw his shoes besides the banister that led upstairs.

Knowing where to go she walked into his old room seeing it how it was before, he hadn't even touched it yet. Everything else had been moved a part from his room. His posters were still there. She tapped on the door gently so she didn't worry him but he didn't move. She couldn't even hear him breathing. He was silent and that scared her.

As she went to leave him and go sit downstairs for a while she heard his voice. "Why didn't you tell me?" the pain in his tone felt like a knife was being drove into her.

"I didn't want to worry you" She told him honestly.

"What happened?" He asked, stilling keep his body facing the opposite way. he was crunched up tightly under his duvet.

"Ryan had told everyone about that night, but a different and very disgusting version of that night, everyone believed him, they've been saying things for weeks. I mean it was horrible but I had you and then he said something to me and I just flipped" She didn't know how to explain something that had been building up for so long. She almost forgot half the mean things that were directed towards her, the hate, and the language.

Wilmer moved his arm and used his hand to tap the empty space in the bed behind him. Demi smiled and carefully crawled behind him, covering her arms around his chest. She felt the tears of relief fall, as she knew he'd forgiven her. "Demi, no matter what is happening you have to talk to me okay?" He told her sternly.

"But you were so upset, you didn't want to come back to school and I knew if you knew you would" She bite into her lip finally letting him know the true reason why she didn't tell him.

"Demi, of course I would have come back. But I would have come back because I wanted too" He turned and felt her head go straight against his chest. "it would have been my decision because I love you..."

Demi looked up and smiled. "You love me?" only had her mother ever said these words in a serious conversation.

"Ever since the first moment I met you" he didn't blush nor did he hide his feelings. Every feeling he had felt since that first time hadn't gone or faded but grown.

"I love you too" she said quietly and pressed her lips softly against his.
