The higher we fly, the lesser we become to those who cannot.

David couldn't get past it. He saw him in Peter, he saw the monster. He just ignored it, he always tried to but there was only so much he could put on the back burner, so seeing Peter drop made him want to worry about something else, someone else. He decided that he liked the kid, he was cute, pretty traumatized from everything he's been through and he rocked the grey hair, which in the end, seemed like a match made from heaven to David. Truthfully, he would've run any other person over in the alley and just went back home, but because it was Peter, he caught his beauty in the light from the streets and thought, god he couldn't be any more gorgeous.

Clearly, Peter had a type. I mean, why else would he come home with them? That's what David first thought at least, but after witnessing him slit his wrists on the couch, right in front of them, he knew it was more than just needing a place to stay, but something else entirely. He tried to help Peter, and he knew not to ask questions about it, but yet he couldn't help the curiosity. Morbidly, David would've thought he'd go to the bathroom or kitchen to do something like that, not right on the couch, though afterward, helping Peter with his bandage, he noticed how slowly his body moved as if he was cautious he'd fall at any second.

Maybe he couldn't move from the couch? I mean, he was basically leaning his whole weight on David when he was cleaning his wounds.

After that interaction, he wanted to get Peter out of that headspace in the only way he knew how even though, but there was this immensely guilty feeling before doing it. David knew how effective this method of destruction was, so why was he introducing it to someone he longed to admire? To destroy them even more? What was his problem?

This is why he couldn't stand himself, this was exactly the reason why he lost most of his loved ones, to drugs and the need for them. He was going to ruin someone's life just for them to feel better? What? This was irrational, stupid, selfish but --

Look at that smoke that flowed from the snout.

It was intoxicatingly exhilarating beyond the point of pleasure.

There was no other feeling like it.

"Peter?" He looked at me with scared, glassy eyes. Curiosity was evident on his face though despite his fear of the drug. It reminded David of his first time with Lenny. The constant, misunderstood glances, the stare after she first hit it, the earth-shattering fear he felt before finally inhaling. It was worth letting him experience it, but it wouldn't be worth it if he became like David, and he knew that. But he still guided him to the frog, still told him to put his lips together, and still told him to inhale despite all of his worries of the beautiful man becoming ugly with addiction.

He just wanted to help.

That's all.

When Peter crashed and threw up, David already had the rag and water ready for him. It was the same way for him when his first drop came, he just knew Peter was going to be like him, and that thought equally terrified and enticed him. He looked at Peter and saw something raw. Everyone had their gadgets, their beliefs, their systems, but when David looked at his icy blue eyes that matched his own in intensity, he just wanted Peter in any way he could get.

It was unexplainable, this feeling. It was as if two different worlds had collided right in front of his eyes, and the beautiful aftermath was Peter himself. David felt locked, entranced by him. But why? He had just met him not even a few hours ago, but he believed, be it irrationally, that love at first sight existed, and he couldn't possibly help himself. He was hopeless, he fell in love with anyone that gave him the slightest bit of attention. Though, with Lenny, it had always been different between them. Besides, she liked women more than men anyway.
