"Hm, a new family is moving in across the street," I hum as I look out the window and see the moving truck pull into the driveway. "That hasn't happened since we moved in. How many years ago was that now?" I look back into the living room where Ashlyn is lounging watching some reality TV show.
"How old are you now?" Ashlyn doesn't even look over at me.
"I'll be turning fourteen right after we head back to school," I look back out the window.
"Then we've already been here for almost six years since we moved here when you were eight. I'm going to be honest, I barely remember anything even though I was almost five."
"There was a lot going on." I narrow my eyes, trying to see the new family that is moving in. "I mean, we had already moved once before, so this move marked your third house. Now you've turned eleven here just a couple weeks ago."
"Any kids with them?"
"Haven't seen anyone but the movers," I pout, placing my elbow onto the windowsill, and then my cheek into my hand. "Which is kind of weird, but I know that being here with the movers can be stressful. Still, they have to arrive soon to tell them where the furniture goes."
The doorbell rings, snapping me out of my thoughts and looking away from the window. There's no question that it is one of the boys. More likely Kenny coming over to take me who knows where.
"Is that your boyfriend?" Ashlyn glances over at me as I head to the front door.
"I'm going to find out!" I chuckle, flinging the door open to find my boyfriend, Kenny, with a big lopsided smile on his face. His little sister nervously by his side.
"Hey sweetheart," he says. "Did you see the moving van?"
"I did," I nod. "Karen, Ash is in the living room watching absolute trash on TV," I grin. "Go join her," I nod into the house.
"Thank you," Karen excitingly mumbles, rushing into the house.
"Have you seen the family yet?" I slip on some tennis shoes, stepping out and closing the door behind me. Now I'm standing right in front of Kenny, and I have a huge smile on my face.
"No, I haven't, but I'm sure they are almost here," he wraps his arms around my waist. "Do you think they have a kid our age or something?"
"I saw a smaller bed," I shrug, running a hand through his messy hair. "Which must mean they have a kid."
"Would you like to walk around and wait until they show up? I was going to take you back to my place to watch Eighties movies, but clearly that can wait," he chuckles.
"I don't want to bother them on an already stressful day though," I sigh.
"We all visited you on your first day here, though. Did that make you more stressed?"
"We were eight," I scrunch up my face in pure confusion.
"The point still stands. All of us bugged you that first day you arrived, so we might as well keep up the tradition."
I roll my eyes, "And now I'm dating you and best friends with everyone else, so I guess it all worked out."
"That's the spirit!" He chuckles, pressing a quick kiss to my lips. "I'm all yours so don't get jealous, okay?"
I chuckle, wiggling out of his hold to grab his hand and start dragging him in the direction of the house. "Don't get jealous when they like me more."
