Evelyn felt like a shell of a person. She didn't speak much, only in short sentences when needed. Hours melted into days, days into weeks and the only way Evelyn could tell how much time had gone by was from the Hydra agents around her and her outside missions. Whereas she still looked 25, they now had grey hair and wrinkles. It was as if her body had stopped aging at one point, freezing her in time. Sometimes when she went to bed, it would feel like she had been asleep longer than couple of hours but she could never be sure.
Much to her protests, they didn't let her hear her sister after every mission. Sometimes she hoped Georgiana would escape on her own and leave Evelyn to deal with the consequences but she knew her sister would never harm anyone. Somedays, Evelyn let her mind wander to her friends. If they knew what she was doing, the crimes she was committing. Would they think of her as a traitor? Or would at least Peggy be able to figure out what was happening? She never thought about them a lot as it would eventually drive her crazy so instead she kept a blank mind. Screams of the people she killed haunting her dreams with Georgiana's mixed together.
Her day had started as usual; combat training with couple of agents before a small breakfast and then she'd wait for a mission.
"Wintersoldatenprogramm ist erfolgreich." She heard one of the guards talk and her ears perked up.
She kept hearing about a new agent but she never heard a name or saw who it was. Evelyn sat in her cell when the door opened and two guards escorted her to the lab. Pulling up her sleeve, she waited them to take her blood when she saw the guard's hand resting on his pistol. She moved her eyes from him and saw the scientists looked nervous and Evelyn knew something was up.
"Wir brauchen sie nicht mehr."
With that, Evelyn jumped back in time as a bullet flew next to her head. Evelyn rolled down and blasted the guards to the walls. She looked at the scientists who were shaking on their spots. Before she could attack them, one of them quickly grabbed the transceiver and pressed a button on it.
"Evie!" Georgiana's voice sounded from the device. "Evie, please."
Evelyn stepped back, biting her lip as she surrendered. She knew this was it for her. That for whatever reason, they didn't need her anymore and would probably kill her. Evelyn only hoped her sister wouldn't face the same fate. As Evelyn was about to let one of the scientists put the handcuffs on her, the device made a scratching sound.
"Evie, please don't do as they say." Georgiana's voice spoke making Evelyn's eyes widen in shock. "You can't let them control-" A punch could be heard before Georgiana grunted.
"Again." A male voice spoke up commanding Georgiana to speak.
"Schalte es aus!" The scientist approaching her commanded the other one.
Before the man could turn it off, Evelyn grabbed his arm and burnt the flesh off of his bones making him let out a scream.
"Evie." Georgiana's voice kept coming. "Please."
"Again!"
Evelyn felt like her blood was boiling as she heard what seemed to be a recording of some sorts. She quickly grabbed the other scientist and tackled him to the floor, her hand on his chest.
"What is that?!" She asked too angry to speak German. "Answer me!"
She slammed his head to the floor making him groan. He seemed to ponder over his options before he looked away, not replying.
"Answer me now or I'll burn the flesh off of your face." Evelyn held out her hand over his face, slowly emitting a flare.
"Stop, stop!" The man's demeanor broke as he moved his face. "Her body couldn't handle the tests."
"What?!" Evelyn asked her mind not processing his words. "Answer me now and I'll spare your life."
"She's dead. They were experimenting on her and her body couldn't handle more." He replied with a sigh. "She's been dead for years. They've been feeding you lies."
Evelyn staggered back, feeling like she was about to throw up as her chest beat hard against her ribs. She looked back at him as he tried to scramble to the door and quickly grabbed his ankle, pulling him back in.
"You're lying!" Evelyn's hand slowly started to burn him.
"You said you'll spare me."
"Well, I lied." Evelyn incinerated the man and got up, picking up the device from the table right as an alarm went off in the building.
She tried to operate it so she could talk to the other end when she pressed a button and it opened, a tape falling to the ground. Evelyn felt her chest tighten as she slowly bent down to pick it up. When she got back up, she saw the lab was surrounded with guards.
"Don't worry, soldier." A voice spoke on the intercom. "You'll soon join your sister."
Evelyn furiously wiped under her eyes and walked out the door, ready to blast them to hell. As the smell of burning flesh filled her nostrils, Evelyn frantically ran around trying to find something about her sister. Eliminating all the guards coming her way, Evelyn stumbled upon a picture of the man that had taken her in 1945 next to a door. She kicked the door open and looked around to see what she could find. Going to the filing cabinet, she saw the name Townsend on one and quickly picked it up.
Whatever she had expected wouldn't be able to prepare her for what she actually saw. Evelyn looked at the pictures of her sister, her autopsy. Her whole body froze, looking at the pictures when she heard the sound of a gun cocking. She looked up and saw the same doctor whose office she was in.
"You." Evelyn gritted her teeth and jumped on him, breaking his wrist with one swift move. "You should have ran away when you had the chance."
Evelyn dryly chuckled at his stupidity and straddled him with a grin, her hand sitting on top of his chest. Evelyn's hand started to burn making the man scream as she slowly pushed her hand in till she could grab his heart. Losing the smirk on her face, Evelyn pulled the organ out and dropped it next to his body. In that state of shock, she didn't even have tears in her eyes as she found the main gate and walked out of the base, leaving a wake of destruction behind her, the base going up in flames.
