Ep 16: Cats and Cakes

When Aaron and Aphmau went inside, they saw Melissa sitting at the table looking through her phone. 

"Oh, hey, Melissa. You didn't have to wait up for us." Aphmau said. 

"I wanted to." Melissa said, "I want to hear how it went."

"Oh, it went well." Aphmau said with a nervous smile. She didn't want to relive the memory of Aaron being turned into a dog for like an hour. 

"Yeah, it was a lot of fun." Aaron said, "But there was a moment where they locked me in the bathroom for 10 minutes."

"What?" Melissa asked. 

"Uh... don't worry about it. That's not important!" Aphmau said, "What's really important is that Aaron remembered something."

"Really?! That's great! What was it?"

"I remembered that I went to IHOP with Shu before, and for some reason, Garroth and Laurence were there." Aaron said, "Now that I think about it, there were also cats?"

Melissa looked at him like he was crazy while Aphmau was feeling secondhand embarrassment.

"Were you on crack that night?" Melissa asked.

"I'm telling the truth. It's a little fuzzy, but I remember cats."

"Sadly, he's right, Melissa." Aphmau said. 

"Ok, can you please explain?" Melissa asked. 

"Aaron was helping me pack some things for my move. Garroth and Laurence thought we were dating. I brought Aaron to IHOP to thank him, but then Laurence and Garroth brought cats to try to attack him with a fish."

"That does sound like something Laurence and Garroth would do." Melissa said. 

"If Laurence and Garroth were jealous of me, why are they friends with me?" Aaron asked.

"They never hated you. They liked me at the time, so they were just jealous. They got over me eventually." Aphmau explained. 

"That's a relief to hear."

"You're telling me. You won't believe the stuff they tried to pull because of it."

"Let me know when you do." Melissa said, "Gotta have popcorn ready."

Aaron and Aphmau laughed. 

Aphmau was a little caught off guard. It's been a while since she heard him laugh. She almost forgot what it sounded like. She would listen to it forever if she could.

"Did Laurence and Garroth like you for a long time?" Aaron asked.

"I think they've liked me since high school." Aphmau asked, "Why?"

"N-No reason. I think I'm gonna head off to bed. See you guys in the morning. Thanks again for tonight, Shu." 

Melissa and Aphmau looked after Aaron as he went up the stairs.

"At least he didn't trip this time." Melissa said.

"That means he's making progress." Aphmau said.

"You know, if I didn't know any better, I'd say he was jealous of Laurence and Garroth."

Aphmau blushed, "Y-You think so?"

"Yep. He's remembering Laurence and Garroth's shenanigans. Who knows? It's only a matter of time before he remembers Aphmau, too. Good night."

Melissa went upstairs, leaving Aphmau by herself for little bit. 

If Aaron was remembering how ridiculous Laurence and Garroth were, how long would it be until he remembers his feelings for her?
