"I win!"
"You cheated!"
"No I didn't!"
"Yes you did!"
The two boys giggled in the meadow, holding sticks and running around each other.
They were playing "stick tag," a game the two had invented together.
"You're it!"
"I'm coming to get you!!"
"You'll never catch me!"
The two boys ran around, poking each other with their sticks and shifting positions.
"Sorry sorry sorry–"
"No no no it's okay I'm okay!"
"You sure?"
"Yes let's keep going!"
"Boys, take a break! It's been three hours, why don't you come inside?"
This was a new voice, their mother.
"Okay mummy!"
The two boys ran across the meadow, towards the house at the edge of the plain.
"Grian! Mumbo! You two are covered in grass, oh dear," their mother fussed. "Go change, okay, kiddos? And then you can have your lemonade and cookies."
"Okay!" "Yay cookies!" The two boys ran to change, excited for their snack.
The mother smiled. Children.
None of them knew that in various towns, villages, cities and everywhere in between, duos to trios had played the same game.
20 years later
Grian smiled down at the framed photograph, remembering his childhood. Days filled with sunshine, sweet grass and flowers, laughter, and his brother could always make him smile.
But these days were rare now, because here in Hermitcraft, no one knew about this game.
Or so he thought.

"Joe, I'll break your legs if you don't stop!" Cleo shouted happily, wielding a stick. Smiling, Joe ran at her again with a stick of his own. "Got you again," he stated calmly.
"Joe!"

"Iskall, you know it's been years since we've played," Mumbo fidgeted.
"C'mon dude, it'll be fun!" Iskall begged him. "You know it's just a silly game for fun, it doesn't matter!"
Mumbo sighed. "But my suit–"
"Who cares!"

Grian posted a sign in the middle of the Shopping District. It read, "A new, silly, pointless game: Stick Tag! Meet at the Mansion at 3 on Tuesday to join. -G."
Worth a try, at least. But there was always the chance no one would show up.
When Mumbo and Iskall found the sign, they smiled and high-fived, marking down the time.
When Cleo and Joe read it, they cheered. Well, Cleo did. Joe laughed with her.
When False saw the sign, she smiled to herself, flying off and committing the date to memory.
When Scar stumbled upon it, he told the cat in his arms, "He knows, he knows, he's played it before! Oh sweet Jellie Grian knows!"
When everyone arrived at Grian's mansion that day, the air was filled with excited chatter as each hermit got a stick. Grian smiled to himself.
Maybe he was more at home here than he thought.
Maybe they all were.
