This takes place in Xisuma and Xanthus' childhood, when they're around 12 years old.
Ty Ella for helping me decide if a muffin is still a muffin if you put frosting on it.
Angst and Fluff
Warning: Abuse, Threats
------------------
The door slammed, shaking the whole house. Never a good sign.
"EVIL XISUMA GET HERE THIS INSTANT!"
For Xanthus, this would be normal, but this time, he was terrified. Sure his mother did this on a normal basis, but never with his brother, Xisuma, around. They always made sure not to let him see what went down while he was away. Not this time. Xanthus ran down the stairs, fixing his posture when he stood in front of his mother, cringing when he saw what she was holding.
"Yes mother?" he said as evenly as he could muster, his voice threatening to break.
"WHAT IN THE NETHER IS THIS?!" she screamed waving a piece of paper in front of his face.
The paper had a drawing on it, and a pretty good one at that. It was a drawing of the ender dragon, a symbol of freedom in the End. Something Xanthus didn't have. You see, in the end, you have three options, become an Admin, become or be forced to be a Watcher, or be a normal person. However, the higher your class, the stricter your options are. For the Void twins, they're options were limited to being an Admin, or a Watcher. His brother strived to be an admin, and the best one at that. Xanthus never knew what he wanted to do, but unlike his brother, he didn't really have a choice. His mother forced him to become a Watcher, a profession that's goal is to strip players of they're freedom. Therefore it is forbidden for Watchers to have any sort of association with the ender dragon.
"It's a drawing." Xanthus mumbled.
"What was that?" Mrs. Void said, her voice sickeningly sweet.
"I said that it's a drawing." Xanthus said, staring at his mother's mask, his voice defiant and challenging.
"YOU DARE TALK BACK TO ME BOY?!"
"You asked the question so I answered." he said smugly, a small grin on his face.
Mrs. Void grabbed him by his neck and lifted him up to eye (or mask) level. She put her hand to his chest and smiled, her hand started to glow, and a blast of purple fire shot out. Xanthus was knocked against the wall, hissing in pain. Still, he didn't fight back. He knew the calmer he appeared, the more ticked off his mother would be. And he was right. She raised her hand, glowing with purple Watcher magic. It blasted him through the wall and over the cliff, down for the void to deal with him. Or so she thought. She was about to turn away when she saw a hand grab the cliff. Xanthus tried to lift himself up, but failed and just hung there limply. Mrs. Void raised her hand once more, ready to deal the final blow, that would throw him into the void.
"STOP!" a strong voice rang out, causing Xanthus and his mother to look over.
Standing there was Xisuma, shimmering tears running down his face.
"Xisuma, baby come here." his mother said, her voice softened and filled with love, as she reached her arms out for her golden child.
Xisuma sprinted past her, pulling his brother up and sprinting back into their shared room with him in tow. He sat his brother down on a bean bag chair, before turning and heading back towards the door.
"Stay here." he whispered as he looked over his shoulder, before closing the door and heading downstairs. Xanthus could hear the argument, wincing at the words spoken from either side.
