(Narrator's POV)
"Hmph. Enjoying the afterlife? Don't worry: You'll be put to good use." Steven said to Kevin and Jeff as he stood in a field with a blood red sky. It was where he went when asleep. It was also the holding place of those he's killed/consumed.
"You monster! You even killed your own kind?!? I knew I should have dealt with you sooner!" Holly Blue Agate screamed as Steven remained unfazed.
"You did. And look where that's gotten you. Even worse: Blue doesn't even care. The Diamond you wanted to impress didn't even give a damn that you were killed. You died for nothing, Holly Blue. All you are now is energy that fuels me. Same to the two of you fuckers." The hybrid snapped at Kevin and Jeff.
"The fuck do you mean?!? I had nothing to do with Connie dumping you that day! That was all on her! Why isn't she dead?!?" Jeff snapped.
"You always were a freak, Universe. What kind of fucked up person are you, man?!?" Kevin asked in anger as Steven shook his head.
"Does it really matter now? Say what you want. I don't care. Not like I ever did about you 3. Call me what you want. A freak. A Monster. Whatever you want. It doesn't change the fact that all you can do is shoot words out. That's it. It doesn't bother me." The hybrid said as Kevin sighed.
"...It should, man. It would have once. Look....I know you've always hated me, Universe. But listen: The road you're going down? It ain't what you want. You don't have to keep doing this." He said.
"What those Gems did to you....it had nothing to do with any of us. Why did we have to die?" Holly Blue Agate asked.
"Is it worth it? Even with your desire for revenge...even though those Gems deserve everything they get from you....you gotta ask yourself if it'll be worth it in the end. Who else will have to die just so you can get to those Gems, Steven?" Jeff asked as Steven didn't reply as the dream began to fade and the hybrid woke up...
*Meanwhile...*
"Where is that human who said he had information? This is ridiculous!" Pearl snapped as she, Bismuth and Garnet awaited the arrival of Kevin due to him apparently having some info about a possible rebellion. Or at least that's what he said to Bismuth.
"Amethyst went to his home to follow up. She should be back anytime now." Garnet said. And sure enough, in walked Amethyst carrying a dead and decayed body.
"What on earth?!? Is that the human who was supposed to have the information?!?" Bismuth asked as Amethyst nodded.
"Looks like it. Seems like someone beat us to him. And they made sure he stayed quiet." She replied.
"I'd imagine he can't do much talking without a head. In any case, this likely means his information may have been more legitimate than I thought. But we still need more confirmation. We need more proof to go off of before we go any further." Pearl said as the doors openend and in walked Greg Universe.
"Greg, what are you doing here? I told you that this isn't a place you need to be for your own sanity." Pearl said as Greg looked at the ground.
"Why wouldn't I be here? You all did this to honor Steven's memory. I know many don't agree and many people I've called friends have called me insane for supporting this. But I know that if this was around...if you all took charge like this before Steven was taken from us....he'd still be here and safe. I don't care what anyone says. This is for the best." He said as Pearl smiled and planted a kiss on his head.
"If he was here...if our son Steven was still alive....he'd not only agree with this...but he'd look up to you even more for standing by it. He'd have so much respect for you, Greg." She said.
"I agree. But this isn't a place you need to be, Greg. Why are you here?" Amethyst asked as Greg nodded.
"I'm here because of what I saw the other day: A hidden area of some kind. And the ones going in it were talking about taking you all down." He said as Pearl smirked.
"So that info grows even more possible. We need to jump on this. Do you know where it is?" She asked as Greg showed her a picture on the phone.
"Ah. Seems like some rebellious humans want to step out of line." Pearl said.
"Wait. I know that area. Let me handle this one on my own. It won't take me long to put these humans in line and wreck that hideout, Pearl." Bismuth said as Pearl chuckled.
"Alright then. I'll leave it to you, Bismuth. Take care of this for me." Pearl replied as Bismuth left and headed to the area where the hideout was....
*Meanwhile...*
"Things are pretty calm today. Nothing's really gone down. So why don't we all go out today and hang out?" Daniel asked as Patricia shook her head.
"By hangout, you mean you, Ronaldo, Sour Cream and Peedee hit up the bar, right?" She asked as Daniel put on a fake look of hurt.
"Wow. And here my idea was for all of us to go out for a bite to eat in Empire City. Cold, Tricia. Real cold." He replied as Sadie, Kiki and Jenny laughed.
"How about we figure it out once we head out? How about it, Steven?" Sadie asked as Steven stood against a wall with his arms crossed.
"No thanks. I'll pass. I'll stay here. Besides, I don't want anyone thinking I'm dating her again. Don't want anyone to die for saying the wrong thing." The hybrid said as Connie frowned.
"Look. It doesn't have to be a date--" She began to say..
"Then let's avoid the issue altogether by having you shut up and go do whatever. I'll stay here, as I said." Steven shot back, cutting her off as Connie was about to reply until Patricia stopped her, advising her not to take it any further.
"Alright then, Steven. We'll bring you back something to eat, OK?" Daniel said as Steven simply nodded in replay as they left. But Sadie looked back at the hybrid.
"You know, I know why you hate Connie. I know why you've been so harsh to her. And I get it, OK? We all do. And you have every reason to feel the way you do. No one's disputing that. But I'll be honest: If there's any part of the sweetheart Steven that I remember underneath all that anger, I hope he at least tries to give Connie another chance because she really does want to make things right." Sadie said as she left to go catch up with the others, leaving Steven alone with his thoughts...
Until he heard the hideout open....
"Huh? Who could have come in? Wait...." Steven began to say as he saw Bismuth come in.
"Hey! Anyone here...wait what?!? Who are you?!?" She asked as Steven summoned his claw.
"The last thing you're going to fucking see!" The hybrid snapped as he charged at Bismuth, ready to fight.
