Chapter 5

(Narrator's POV)

"Amethyst. You're back early. I assume she's staying out of trouble?" Garnet asked as Amethyst returned from her inspection of Connie.

"She's still got an air of defiance about her. I don't expect her to do much, but being cautious wouldn't hurt. You'd think she would see things our way after Steven's death." The Purple Gem said as Garnet kept her back turned as she mediated.

"She'll fall in line like they all have. And how the rest of them will once we spread out past Beach City. That's why Pearl is out right now. She went to one of the neighboring cities. And if they don't agree? Well she'll just have to show them why our way is the only way." Garnet said as Amethyst sighed.

"Hey. Do you think things would be different...if Steven was still alive? Would we still be doing all this?" She asked.

"If anything....if he was still alive....we'd crack down even harder so he'd STAY alive..." Garnet said as Amethyst simply walked away to leave the fusion to her meditation.

As she left, she decided to check on a special detainee that they kept in a special cell. Heading to the secluded room, Amethyst glared at the sight of her brother's accused "killer", Jasper. While the Gem Beast was the one who did the murder, Pearl had everyone believe that the beast was released by Jasper.

"My how the mighty have fallen. At one point you were the biggest threat to us. Then Steven kicked your ass and now look where you are. So much for the perfect quartz." Amethyst said as Jasper chuckled.

"I'm not ashamed that I lost to my Diamond. I'm more ashamed that I'm at the mercy of a runt like you. Tell me: When is this charade going to end? You've already got me pinned for a murder I never committed. So why not just shatter me and be done with it?" She asked.

"Beacuse that would be too merciful. I want you to suffer, Jasper. Every bit of pain you put Steven through, I want you to feel it tenfold. Everything you put us through, I want you to be put through even worse. I don't want you to simply die: I want you to slowly agonize." Amethyst said in a dark voice as Jasper chuckled yet again.

"Heh. Torture me all you want. I'm made of much more tougher stone than you Crystal Tyrants. I knew you 3 would become corrupt. But honestly? I expected that Pearl or fusion to be the tyrants while you were just tagging along like the clueless runt you are." She said with a smirk as Amethyst growled.

"Clueless runt? Yet I'm not the one who made a failed escape attempt knowing I was too weak to do so. You may have escaped execution that day, but now you're just on borrowed time, Jasper." She replied as she began to walk away.

"Heh. Let me ask you this: Did you actually see how Steven died? Were you there to confirm it?" Jasper asked as Amethyst stopped.

"Pearl and Garnet confirmed it. I had to be the one to tell Steven's friends that you killed him." She replied.

"Heh. So you don't even know if he's actually dead? You just went by the first thing you heard? You really are clueless. What happened to that Gem beast? Wasn't THAT what that Pearl said?" Jasper replied.

"Hmph. I went by the word of my family. They said the Gem Beast was one that was trapped with you in the kindergarten while you were corrupted and that you were the one who released it and let it loose. While it may have been the one who did the murder, you releasing it was just as bad." Amethyst said as she walked away.

*Meanwhile, back on Homeworld*

It felt like time had stopped for Steven. Or better yet, he had gone back in time before all of this and found two Gems who he loved and who loved him right back. Two Gems that truly made him happy.
