"So what's first? Do you actually have info or a plan or was that just a lie? Because if it was then it'll be the last lie you tell." Steven said in annoyance as Connie looked at him.
"Didn't I tell you this is personal for me too? Besides, I ran into someone while imprisoned. And they said to look for them once we were both out. So yesterday, I did just that. And let's just say that they'll be happy you're alive and on our side." She explained as she got on the phone and dialed a number.
"Yeah....put her on the phone....hello...yeah I'm home....well I know you'd like to say I'm alone, but I ran into someone who will be able to help us. He's a little bitter, but for good reason. Shall I bring him by....OK...Alright great. On our way." Connie said as she hung up.
"Fuck you. I'm not bitter. I'm pissed. There's a difference. Thought you were the smart one?" Steven growled as Connie shook her head.
"You know, when I bring you to this place, you need to calm down. All of the people you're going to meet are on your side and you need to understand that. As strong as you are, you can't take on Pearl and her Legates on your own, Steven." She explained as Steven raised an eyebrow.
"Legates? What medieval shit is Pearl on? Has she become THAT high on herself? As if she already didn't have a huge ego!" The hybrid exclaimed as Connie sighed.
"Trust me: If you hated Pearl's ego before, you're going to want her dead...well dead-er. But anyway, come on. Let's go and see my contact." She said as a thought struck Steven.
"Hold on. I have to check in with Homeworld so the Diamonds and Spinel don't worry. Is there a communcation hub still around?" He asked.
"None that the Gems don't control. They went to every extreme to keep Homeworld out of the picture. Don't worry: I promise this won't take long at all." Connie said as Steven looked away.
"You also promised to love me just the way I am and we remember how that turned out." The hybrid said bitterly as Connie sighed. What could she say to that?
"Come on. We're wasting time. If you have time to throw verbal jabs at me, then you have time to come with me." She said as she and Steven made their way towards the door....
*KNOCK KNOCK*
"Open up! We're on orders here! We know you're home, Connie." A familiar voice said as Steven summoned his claw!
"That traitorous bitch!" The enraged Hybrid began to say until Connie shushed him.
"Not now. We don't need a fight right now. Save that anger for when it's time. For now, go out the back door and go check in with Homeworld. I'll head to my contact alone once I deal with this. We'll meet up later. Now go." She said as Steven made his way out the back door and summoned his wings, heading back to the warp.
Meanwhile, Connie opened the door.
"Hasn't even been more than two days and you're already checking on me, Amethyst?" Connie said as in walked Amethyst. The years had changed the purple quartz immensely. Her hair was now more straight and she wore heeled boots along with a white sleeved top and black pants. Her once fun and happy demeanor was gone. The "death" of her brother Steven had made her far more cold and serious.
"Don't get smart with me. I simply came to check on you and see if you're behaving. All discharged prisoners are required to be on mandatory probation, so don't think we're singling you out. But I will say: It feels like Pearl is. She really wants you on our side. On her side. Didn't Steven's death teach you anything? Didn't it show you how out of control things are? We want to spread out past Beach City. And when that happens, you know Pearl wants you at her side like it used to be. Think about it." Amethyst said as she left.
"Hmph. All you guys have done is use your powers and influence as "saviors" to push everyone around. But we'll see how it is when YOU'RE the ones pushed around." Connie said to herself as she finally left to go meet her contact.
*Meanwhile...*
The Warp Pad went off and Steven arrived back on Homeworld, much to the joy of Spinel, Topaz and the Diamonds.
"Stevie! You're OK!" Spinel exclaimed.
"Good thing too. There's a couple of Gems here that I believe would love to see you." Topaz said as Steven looked and gasped at the two Gems who were looking at him, tears of joy in their eyes:
Lapis and Peridot.
