(Narrator's POV)
"Things are quite calm today, My Spinel!" A Ruby guard said as Spinel sighed. She hated being called "My Spinel", even it was a show of respect. She's never been one to embrace authority. Why start now?
"*sighs* Ruby sweetie. I told you before: Just call me Spinel, alright?" Spinel replied as the Ruby guard looked worried until Spinel hugged her.
"Calm down. Just try to remember next time, OK?" The Heart Gem said as the Ruby guard smiled.
"Yes, Spinel!" She replied as a voice could be heard chuckling as Topaz came up. She and Spinel had become close friends lately.
"Am I interrupting? I needed to talk to you, Spinel." Topaz said as the Ruby guard nodded and took the hint, leaving Spinel and Topaz alone to discuss whatever was on Topaz' mind.
"It's like having a little red shadow, I swear. Anyway, what's going on, Topey? You seem to be in a good mood. Blue gonna let you have a wedding here?" Spinel laughed as Topaz giggled.
"Oh if only she'd let us. That would make Topaz so happy. But...well....Blue and that fusion on Earth...and with what happened to...um..Spinel? Are you alright?" Topaz asked as she noticed Spinel looking away and balling her hand into a fist as if she was reminded of a bad memory.
"5 years....it's been that long....that long since he was brought back here after what they did to him...my poor Stevie.....THOSE CRYSTAL GEMS HURT HIM!!" Spinel snarled, growing in size but turning back to normal once she saw how frightened Topaz was.
"I'm sorry, Topey. I just....I just get so angry when I think about what happened to him. And what they did to him....I still remember when he told me the story...." Spinel said as she began to tell the story:
*Flashback*
(Steven's POV)
Being out with the Gems was exactly what I needed. My heart was broken after Connie suddenly broke up with me. She never said anything about why. Just said "I'm breaking up with you" through text. She didn't even do it to my face.
To make matters worse, I decided to confront her myself...only to see her with this guy with brown hair. I had seen him before: He was a friend of hers from school named Jeff. She broke his arm a while back. But before they could see me, I ran back home.
Which led us to this as a way for me to recover. The Gems knew my love of going on missions with them and this one was important: A Stray Gem beast. A straggler that we didn't heal.
"Be careful, Steven. I know you're much stronger now but I still worry about you in combat." Pearl said as I sighed.
"I'll be fine, Pearl. I've grown up from what I once was." I said.
"Yeah, P. Steven can whoop our butts now! What does that tell ya about how strong he is now?" Amethyst asked as Garnet chuckled.
"Steven may be much stronger now. But I still think I could take him over my knee. And I'll do just that if he gets too cocky." She said as I groaned. But before I could reply...
*ROOOOAAARRR!*
"There it is! What do we do?!?" I asked, summoning my shield as the beast approached us. It was a scorpion like Gem beast. The Gem was on its stinger and its pincers were massive. A quick swipe of its claw sent us back!
"What is it with this thing?!? That big tail is keeping us back!" Amethyst exclaimed as Pearl looked at Garnet and nodded before the both of them looked at me.
"Steven. I need you to do something: Stay here and keep it busy until we go get Lapis and Jasper to help. Do whatever you need to do: Just make sure it doesn't leave this area. " Garnet asked as I nodded.
"And no using your Diamond powers. We aim to contain it. Not end its existence." Pearl instructed.
Keep it busy. Simple, right?
How wrong I was...
They took off on the Warp Pad to go get backup.....
And never came back. They left me to be brutalized by this Gem beast. My arm was taken by one of its pincers. It felt like it was truly the end for me. But the last image as I blacked out was the other Warp in the area going off and a group of voices.....
*Present Day..*
(Narrator's POV)
"Oh my Stars! I never knew those Crystal Gems would abandon Steven like that! How could they do such a thing?!?" Topaz exclaimed as Spinel was angered.
"I don't know. And I don't care. Thank the Stars I arrived with you and a couple of the Zoo Amethysts and we were able to beat that beast and bring Steven back here. I still remember how furious White was when Steven was finally able to tell us what happened. That was five years ago and since then....." She began to say until Pink Pearl arrived.
"Spinel? White says you may go see Steven now. But do be careful. He...well he isn't the same as he once was after all that's happened. But White would like you to go and ask him about his new arm." She said as Topaz was confused.
"Huh? I thought you told me that Gem beast tore Steven's arm off. Can humans regrow limbs?" She asked.
"Well remember: Stevie ain't no ordinary human. But the Diamonds were surprised too when they saw his Gem energy give him a new arm. But while it's much stronger, it's also kinda unstable since it's still new. So White used a controlled form of corruption to keep it together. She says Steven's new arm can shapeshift. But I guess I'll see for myself. You wanna come along?" Spinel asked.
"No thank you. I know you like your time alone with Steven. And it's your first time seeing him since he came out of the Diamonds inner chambers after the procedure that saved him, isn't it? I'd just be in the way. We'll talk later and send Steven my love." Topaz says as Spinel hugs her and follows Pink Pearl to the room where Steven currently is...
