"Are you serious?" Lucy's voice was stiff and cold as she looked me in the eyes, "you're getting him, after everything he has done?" her face scrunched up in anger as she bit off the end of her sentence. I jerked my leg back as Max shoved her head further through the hole she made, her canines ripping into my pant leg while I was distracted by my sister's distraught state.
"What other choice do I have, Lucy?" my voice was pleading as I locked eyes with her, knowing she could see my frustration, "he has dealt with a...case...like this before, he is the only one that can help without us losing anyone else, two of my pack members are dead, and one will always have a part missing from her because of that death, I need his help with this because I can not bear the thought of hurting my mate," My voice was loud so that she could hear me over the sounds of Max's snarls and clashing teeth as she tried to wedge herself further through the broken part of the door and tear us apart, but her attention was mainly focused on me even though my sister was closer.
Lucy shook her head as she snorted at my words, "and what do you think he will do exactly, Austin? He killed his own brother-"
"That was different." I snapped with enough anger to give even my Mate a pause in her attack, although it was short-lived, and then she started clawing at the wood to try and make more space for her figure to fit through.
Lucy shook her head in frustration and anger, "Adam is our father, not him. He lost that right a long time ago," Adam was more of a father figure of lucy than he was for me. Although we were both young when our mother died and our actual father snapped, I was old enough to remember the kind of man he used to be and still yearned for the father he was. But for Lucy, she was too young to remember the good days, the days before he tore our family to pieces.
Adam was our actual dad's beta before he had his title stripped from him, allowing Adam to act as temporary Alpha until I was ready to take up the position myself. When that time came I still had to face and beat our biological father in a challenge for the position and power that he held. That was the last time I saw Thomas.
I cursed under my breath, my arm flaming in pain the longer I stood there placing all my weight against it and the door, "look, cant we talk about this later, maybe when we're not dancing around my mate's jaws?" Lucy just glared at me before opening her mouth to say something else but was cut off by a deep, gravelly voice that I had not heard in a long time, coming from behind us.
"Save what for later?" his words were harsh and rough even though he probably didn't mean for them to be. It had been years since I last heard his voice, but I knew instantly who it belonged to. I looked over my shoulder and saw the man that once held the position that I now do. His black hair streaked with silver on the sides, his grey eyes once bright with life and happiness, now hallow and constantly sad.
"Dad," although I sent Shar to get him, I couldn't help the dread that crept in the back of my mind that he wouldn't show, "I need your help-" I looked down at where Max's head had been seconds ago, but she had pulled herself back into the room and settled back into ramming into the door, attempting to make the hole bigger as the wood split even more than before now that there was a week point.
He moved to take a step closer to us but saw Lucy's shoulders tense as he did and stopped where he was, sending her a pained look that she didn't see. She was facing the door still, listing to the words exchanged between the two of us but obviously was trying to pretend that our father was not in the same room. I understood why she was afraid. I understood why she didn't want me to get his help, and I understood that it wasn't just for the safety of her Luna. Our father took a step back, but her body remaining stiff.
"What do you need?"He looked back at me with a shrug, his thumbs hooked in his belt loops and shirt rolled up at the sleeves, exposing his large muscular arms. His Adam's apple bobbed under the scruff that grew from his chin and down his neck, as he looked away from lucy and back to me. I braced myself as Max slammed into the door once again. Within an instant my father's eyes left mine and snapped to the busted door, his eyes narrowing and shoulders shifting in anticiation, "what's in there?" his voice wasn't as sorrowful as it was before, now filled with a burning curiosity and lethal intentions.
