The wolf in my arms shook as she realized that we were not alone in the room. She scurried off my lap and pushed herself against the wall, her hackles raised, ready to defend herself. When Kara had told me that she had been hiding in my room since I had left, I couldn't help but rush up here not even thinking about the strangers that followed close behind me. Now I was faced with calming my mate down long enough to get Cota and Shar to my room, or to at least move Max into a larger room that had more space for her to feel more comfortable.

My wolf protested the thought of moving her out of our room, loving the fact that the time that she has spent in her has caused our sent to cling to her skin. I pushed his whines back and focused on my mate who was now snarling in the direction of her parents. Her mother began to weep at the sight of her daughter, no doubt noticing the flare of red in her eyes that took over the green so similar to her own. Her husband put an arm around his wife's shoulders and pulled her closer to his side, his jaw tight.

"Is she hurt?" concern leaked from her voice as she took in the battered form of her only child.

I frowned as I looked over my mate and her healing body, "Yes and no. She was worse off when we first found her, she has healed very nicely in the short time that she has been her although the progress seems to have plateaued in the past week or so. I may have to take her back to Shar and see what she says."

"Who is Shar?"

I glanced over at the male Lycan, "One of our healers,"

He simply nodded, running a comforting hand up and down his wife's arm, pressing his face into her hair as he tried to find some comfort of his own, before looking back up at me, "What is it that you need us to do?"

I opened my mouth to answer but was interrupted by a soft knocking on the wood of the door, Cota peeking her head inside the room in uncertainty. The three of us turned our attention to the newcomer while Max just pressed herself further into the wall, her slight snarls growing louder as her nostrils flared and caught the witch's scent.

"Kara called and told me that you were back," she shot a glance over at Max before turning her eyes over on the Lycan royals, "and that you brought company..."

The Lycan king stiffened as her power made a surge, unchecked and raw power filling the air, "I thought our people eradicated all of your kind," his eyes narrowed as he took in the witchlings small and dirty frame.

"It's a long story," she shifted her weight from the door and quickly crossed the room, putting plenty of distance between her and the couple. Max snarled again as she passed by, her snapping jaws at her ankles when she got too close, but Cota was quick to jump out of the way, "We are going to have to move her to a more spacious and secure area if we are going to be doing this. I would suggest that we wait until the morning, but-"

"We cant wait. The longer that we wait the more at risk that she becomes in going completely feral, and I may not know much about mates," The lycan king snarled the word as if it disgusted him, "and I may not understand how it is that our daughter even has one, but what I do know is that they are supposed to be able to calm each other down." He looked at me with those eyes, already questioning the things that I had told him.

"If you truly are her mate, then the only reasonable explanation as to why she won't calm by your touch is because she has already slipped dangerously close to being completely wild."

"Than we should probably get moving then. If you guys could wait out in the living room so I can get her to follow..." the stiff muscles of the couple told me that they didn't want to leave their daughter ever again, but I could tell they knew the importance of doing this fast, but I was still surprised when they slipped out the door and back down the hall.
