I sat back in my seat after fixing the covering of the cage. I closed my eyes and tried to think about what I was going to do when I heard a throat being cleared. I slowly opened my eyes back opened and glared at the man sitting in front of me.

"I'm sorry Alph-"

"Don't." He avoided my eye as he looked down at his shoes. The car rumbled on for what seemed like hours until finally, we made it back home. I looked out the window and at the village that was home to many families that belonged to my pack. We pulled up to the front of the main house, but I didn't get out of the car, instead I stayed as even as everyone else did.

"Want me to come?" I shook my head at Ben's question.

"I need you to get her handler ready for when I get back." he nodded and closed the car door before I turned to the driver.

"Take us the doctors would you?" he nodded and I looked back at the cage sitting in front of me, my frown deepening as I heard slight whimpering from inside of it as we pulled out of the driveway and into the parking lot of the doctor's office. I got out of the car with thanks to the man in the front seat and picked up my mate's cage, still wary of how she was going to act. She was quiet right now and I didn't know how to feel about that. Walking into the lobby I met the receptionist at the front desk and asked to see Dr. Shar. She offered to take the cage but I turned her down, mainly because I didn't know how she would act with someone new, but also because there was no way I was going to let my mate out of my sights. After waiting for only ten minutes, Dr. Shar came over to where I was sitting with her cage at my feet, frustration, and worry clear on my face.

"Alpha, it's good to see you." she held out her hand, but I ignored it and pulled her into a huge. She was like a second mother to me, I didn't see the since in formalities. She didn't hesitate to return the hug. I knew my grip was tight, but she didn't complain as I buried my face into her neck, tears threatening to spill from my eyes now that I was near her, knowing that she would not judge me like the others, because like me, she considers me to be her son, even though there was no blood relation. But she was my mother's best friend and helped my father raise me after she passed.

Knowing that I was about to break down, she patted my back and pulled away slightly, and gave me a look of knowing as nodded in the direction of the cage and gestured for me to follow her before I completely broke in front of the receptionist who was a known gossip. Picking up my mate I followed Shar to an examination room and closed the door behind me, sitting the cage back on the floor.

"What happened?" she asked as soon as I turned back around to face her. I looked at her as she rubbed my shoulders and I shook my head, afraid to speak. All I could say was Mate. Her eyes widened slightly with shock, and excitement until she realized that was also the reason why I so distraught. I glanced at the cage and she followed my eyes. She took in a sharp inhale of breath, hesitantly raising her hand to her face, before recovering and turning back to me.

"Is she..." she trailed off in fear of what the answer was.

"She's alive," she sighed in relief, but I shook my head, "but there's something wrong..." my voice broke and I cursed myself for being so weak when I was supposed to be an Alpha, "They did something to her and I need your help to fix it." she furrowed her brows in thought but agreed nevertheless. I gently stepped around and knelt beside the cage, taking in a deep breath before pulling the cover off. There were a gasp and a snarl. I looked with sad eyes at my mate in the small space, her fur a matted and filthy mess, covered in blood and wast, and I noticed bit marks on the cage wire and realized that must have been how her mouth got stuck on it.

Her eyes were bright red as they landed on Shar, who was studying her with eyes that matched my own.

"Little mate-" I started and instantly her head snapped down, her eyes back to being a green color, her ears down and one-pointed in my direction, I sighed before I continued,

"I'm going to let you out, ok? But I need you to behave ok?" I stood up and unlocked the latch on the cage door, slowly opening it as it creaked on its hinges. I didn't know what I was expecting, but I certainly did not expect her to stay in the cage. Not even shifting slightly to use the extra space to her advantage, only twitching her ear slightly, as if waiting for me to give her an order.

I frowned and glanced up at Shar who seemed to be hesitating.

"What is it?" She glanced over at me and then looked back at the wolf still in the cage.

"I think..." she trailed off, not sure if she should continue, "I think you need to tell her to move. She won't do it unless you give her an order to." I growled at the thought of ordering my mate to do anything. I realized my mistake when she flinched, backing further into the cage.

"Just this once." Shar gave me a nod and I stepped in front of the cage and sighed. How did her handler do this again? I thought back to the end of the fight I saw her in. The image of her tearing into her competitor branded into my mind's eye. In the end, a sharp whistle came off from the side. She listened to it. It was worth a shot.

Breathing in deeply I let out a whistle that sounded similar to the one I had heard the other night at the fight. I waited for her to make a move but she didn't. I furrowed my brows in confusion and thought it back over as I saw her head tilt as if she was confused as well. Maybe he only did that after a fight. I thought back further to when I followed them back to the basement where she was kept, suppressing my anger as I remembered that place. When he came back he put her leash on her and...of course.

I took a step back and as did as such, "come on girl." Her ear flicked and she slowly pulled herself from the cage, her massive form unfolding, muscles stretching as she limped out into the open and sat back down at the entrance of the cage as if waiting for another order.

This was going to take a while.
