The market was small, smaller than you had expected, but oh well. The sign above the door lit up, the letters spelling out "Shimada Mart". You were sure this was the place, as there wasn't anything else even close in spelling for at least a couple towns over. The "r" on the sign flickered a little blinking in the streets. Luckily, it hadn't gotten too dark yet, so it was mostly fine for now, but you had come prepared in case of whatever emergency might befall you. Kure had insisted, but you would have done it even without her fussing.
Where was he? He was probably just late, you should wait a little bit more, just in case. You decided to check the time again. Yep, 4:40. Wait, he did say to meet at 4:30, right? You had better check again. Five o' clock!? You could've sworn it was 4:30. How did you even get the two confused? They don't even sound or look anything alike! Well, at least you weren't late for once.
"Take that Atlas and Kure! I can be on time just fine!" You thought, but you were wrong. You were still not on time, although this was an improvement to being late.
Another 10 minutes passes and you let out a deep sigh. It was pretty boring just standing here. You decided to go inside and grab something to drink for the both of you while you wait. You grabbed two small bottles of water and went to go pay. You went up to the counter and you recognized the cashier that was ringing you up to be the owner of the store Mr. Shimada. You picked up the bottles of water and resumed your post in front of the store.
"Um, Miss? Are you alright? You've just been standing here for the past 20 minutes."
You were a little surprised by the question but you replied that you were just a little early meeting up with someone.
"Oh, alright, sorry if I surprised you," he said, going back into the store.
As soon as you heard the door close you saw Yamaguchi running up the street to the store. You waved as he got closer and he waved back. When he finally made it to where you were, he was pretty out of breath.
"U-uh are you alright? There wasn't any hurry, I promise, you're actually right on time."
"Wait, what?? But it's five o' clock already! Weren't we supposed to meet at 4:30?" he said, still out of breath.
"Whoah, you thought that too? But I checked and the meeting time was 5, haha. We both got it wrong," you said, laughing slightly. "Oh! Here, I got here a "few" minutes early so I got us something to drink!"
You handed the bottle of water to him and he took it gratefully.
"Oh! Thank you, I was in such a rush I didn't grab any, I hope you weren't waiting too long," he said worriedly.
"Oh no it was my fault haha, I should have checked the time again before coming. So, where do we go now?"
"First I'll talk to Mr. Shimada. He owns the store. You could probably tell that though, I mean, it's called Shimada Mart. He's the one who teaches me. But anyway, do you want to come with me or would you rather wait out here? Either's fine."
Yamaguchi rambled over his words like a train that had gone off track. But like, in a cute way. You know, right? Because train wrecks are really cute. What's cuter than a train crashing and burning, leaving several dead and injured and those left to fend for themselves, building homes out of the wreckage. Because that's totally what happens when a train crashes. Personally, I couldn't think of anything cuter.
"I'll come with you, if you don't mind."
He held the door for you as you entered the store once again.
"Mr. Shimadaaa!" He called as he looked through the isles.
"Ah! Tadashi! Come to prac-ti-ce..." he trailed off.
"Uh- Mr. Shimada?"
"T-tadaShi-w-who's THAT?"
He looked absolutely dumbfounded as he pointed towards you to which you inched a little further behind Yamaguchi in panic.
"She's a f-friend Mr. Shimada! She wanted to learn how to float serve so I said that I would help teach her!" He blurted out. "Mr. Shimada this is (Y/N), (Y/N) this is my teacher, Mr. Shimada."
"Hello! It's nice to meet you! My name's (Y/N) but you already know that. I look forward to working with you."
Alright, maybe it was a bit formal for your tastes, but you had to make a good first impression on your future teacher.
"Nice to meet you (Y/N)! So, when's the wedding? You will invite me, right?" How did you meet Tadashi? I'd love to hear all about it!"
"M-MR. SHIMADA-I-I-IT'S NOT LIKE THAT!!" he stammered, his face as red as a strawberry, with freckle seeds to match.
You couldn't help but let out a laugh at the scene in front of you, which consisted of Mr. Shimada in what looked like tears of joy and an embarrassed Yamaguchi scrambling to try and make Mr. Shimada understand the situation correctly. They both noticed your laugh and turned to look at you simultaneously.
"Pffft, I'm sorry but I couldn't help but laugh," you said as you composed yourself. "Mr. Shimada, I met Yamaguchi at a tournament and I thought his serves were really amazing, I just had to learn from him, or maybe from whoever taught him, 'cause it seemed like they did a great job."
"Tadashi...you've got a keeper," Mr. Shimada said, giving a thumbs up to Yamaguchi while tears of joy welled up in his eyes again. "Now come on, let's get to work!"
