Aru steeled herself.
Looking Aiden right in the eye, she spoke. "Ask away."
Aiden quirked a brow. "That's unusual for you, Wolf."
Aru pointedly stared lasers into the ground.
Aiden's fingers twitched. "First things first. Why'd you run."
"Think we both know the answer to that one," Aru grumbled.
In her peripheral vision, Aru could see Aiden roll his eyes.
"Right. Why'd you come back?"
"Half the Ghatakas would've killed me in a heartbeat."
Aiden paused. "And you came back here?"
Aru looked back up. "What do you mean?"
Aiden look nonplussed. "Easy. Why come back to the Alus?"
"Seemed safe here, I guess."
Aiden blinked. Seemed like he wasn't expecting that answer.
"Are you lying to me?"
Aru sighed. "No."
Well, that was a blatant lie. One of the reasons she had come back to the Alu complex was due to Ghataka interests, but now, so far from the Ghataka base, those goals felt farther away. Maybe that last statement wasn't such a lie after all.
"Be honest with me here-"
"You're asking the impossible there," Aru interjected.
"Really?" Aiden monotoned.
Aru kind of wanted to laugh, but this was an interrogation, even if it was under the guise of small talk.
"Last question Wolf. I'll leave you to the dark, empty, room once you answer this one."
Aru raised an eyebrow. "Ask already."
"What are you planning?"
Aru froze. "What makes you think I'm planning anything?"
Aiden's eyes narrowed. "Not anyone can just hop over the complex walls, Wolf. You must have planned that."
Aru had to give him that one. "Alright, alright, you caught me. Though I swear I'm not planning anything now."
"I'm not inclined to believe you."
Well, dang it.
"So you're saying you don't trust me?"
"Not in the slightest," Aiden said flatly.
"Ya know what, that's fair."
Aiden snorted. "Right, okay."
"What's been going on the days since I've gone?" Aru asked, leaning back in her chair.
"Again, not inclined to tell you."
"I'm guessing it's important, then?" Aru guessed.
"Still not inclined to tell you." Aiden deadpanned.
"Snob." Aru grumbled.
"Troll."
If she had a glass of water right then, Aru would've done a spit take.
Instead, she let out a tired chuckle.
Aiden shifted in his chair imperceptibly.
"Do I make you nervous?" Aru asked.
Aiden looked at her sidelong. "You're dangerous, unpredictable, and untrustworthy, Wolf."
"Knock 'untrustworthy' off that list."
