(TW: Mentions of Suicide, read at your own leisure.)
After Shuichi and I's chit-chat, he slept in his room that night and I stayed in mine. I assumed he wanted time to himself to think through it all on his own.
When I woke up, Shuichi was still in his room and his uncle was downstairs watching television. I could hear Shuichi typing something in his room, so he was awake but I didn't think he would want me to bother him about it.
I went downstairs to get a glass of water but then remembered I wasn't allowed in the kitchen. I heaved out a sigh and turned to look at what his uncle was watching. He was watching some kind of documentary on endangered species. I was going to ask about why he was watching it when I realized he was black out drunk and was passed out on the couch. Hard to believe this guy is a detective.
O'well.
I went out to the backyard that I had never actually explored during my time living there. They had a small rusting swing set. It was obvious it hadn't been used in a long time since moss and rust were growing on it. I looked at the two swings and sat on the less rusty one.
I held onto the chains and swung back and fourth looking at the clear blue sky. Funny how the sky is seems endless but it does end. Makes me think about how the human race seems like it will never die but it will one day.
I stopped swinging to slap my cheeks to stop thinking of something so morbid. I then got off the swings and looked at some of the weeds that look like flowers. They're like me, deceiving people with a masterful lie to mask a weed hidden underneath to be clipped later. I pushed on my knees to stand up and dusted off any dirt.
I did wonder when school would start, Shuichi did say it was a boarding school for danganronpa survivors. I wonder what people we'll meet there whenever it starts. We're already half-way through August so it should start soon.
I went back inside the house and upstairs to Shuichi's room door. I knocked and swayed my head whilst waiting.
"Morning Kokichi," he greeted me with a smile. He had bags under his eyes, he's been up all night.
I plastered a playful smile on my face, "Hey Shumai!" I entered his room and sat on his bed while he sat down in his desk chair with a laptop open on the desk. "Did you sleep well?"
He scratched the back of his head and stuttered with a false smile, "Y-yes. H-how did you sleep?"
I didn't sleep that night either because I was afraid of what new way of torture that stupid voice would find. I wouldn't tell Shuichi that though, he had already had a rough night. "I slept."
"That d-doesn't answer my question," he inquired.
I rolled my eyes, "I slept fine Shumai! However, you lied to me." Anger lingered in my voice, "I hate liars."
He glanced at the floor then the wall then swung his chair to face the laptop so he wouldn't have to look at me, "S-sorry Kokichi."
"You lied for a good reason, right?" I put focus on the last word, elongating it.
"Y-yeah." He started typing something on his laptop.
The room left in silence until his uncle yelled up to us.
He was agitated, "I'm going out, there's some registration forms for your school on the coffee table. Fill them out and drop them by the school! I've already signed the 'guardian' part so just fill out the rest!" We heard a door slam soon after.
Shuichi stood up out of his chair, "Have you eaten yet?"
"Nope! I'm not allowed in the kitchen, remember?" I smirked.
