Alone and Scared

Chapter 32

CHLOES POV

I heard heartbeats. Some were steady, some were nervous and upbeat more. They weren't sure about the preacher. I wasn't sure. Maybe he's lying?

I heard a whisper. From the trees. it was,

"I know you know I'm alive and I want to see you." My mothers voice rang through my ears. My eyes widened. Dad looked at me concerned and then a church came to view. The sun was setting.

We all unpacked and set up a sleeping area in the seating areas (pews (idk spelling)).

I volunteered as first watch. People trusted me so I was on first watch. I sat in the back seats, my bow locked and ready.

I jumped as I heard Carls voice,

"What's wrong? Your ignoring me. Sorry I scared you."

I shrugged my shoulders as an answer and focused on the doors again.

"C'mon Chlo that's not an answer." Chlo was his nickname for me. It's original but always made me laugh.

"It's nothing. Just thinking. About this place. Something seems off." I lied, I was thinking about moms words. I need to meet her. Away from everyone else.

"Same. I'm going to search the place tomorrow. if you want to join, you can. I wont mind."

"Maybe. You should get some sleep, I got this." He nodded and walked off. after my watch was done, Sasha took my place. I heard everyone's heartbeat, slowed in relaxation.

This was probably their first sleep since the prison. I glanced at Sasha. She was watching the door for any movement.

I slowly sneeked out a window. I've got to meet Rebekah.

I walk into the forest and whisper,

"Mom? I'm here to meet you?"

I heard a woosh and there she was. My eyes watered with tears and anger.

"You left me and pretended you were dead. You didn't tell me about dad! Why did you leave me? Why did you take death? WHY mom?" I whisper yelled.

She sighed and said,

"Can I hug my daughter? Please?" I glanced her way and nodded. She walked closer and wrapped her arms around me.

"I'm so sorry." She said in my ear.

"I looked for you, for months. I was putting a baby in danger just to find you."

"I was there the whole time." I pulled away and glared at her.

"Hun, let me explain."

I looked around and said,

"You better hurry, I don't have all night. My dad is in there."

That's when I got answers. The answers I've wanted for a long time.
