AN: Thinking of having each episode be a chapter but writing them will be a bitch.

Beth's POV

I woke up to the ticking sound of a clock. Where am I? Where's Daryl? My breathing got quicker when I realized I was in a hospital room? I hop out of the bed while dragging the IV pole with me and look out the only window in the room. The city. Or what's left of it.. I whip around and bang on the door shouting for someone.

"HEY! HELLO?"

I hear a radio, like a policeman's. I back away from the door and take the IV out of my arm, holding it up, ready to attack. Two people came in, a doctor and a policewoman.

"Everything's okay. Okay?" The doctor told me. My breathing was still heavy. Who are these people?

"Put it down. Drop it right now." The policewoman commanded. I obeyed and dropped it to the ground.

"I'm Dr. Steven Edwards. This is Officer Dawn Ferner. How are you feeling." Dr. Edwards told me.

I ignored the question and asked, "Where am I?"

"Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta." He responded

"How did I get here?"

"My officers found you on the side of the road surrounded by rotters." Dawn said.

"Your wrist was fractured and you sustained a superficial head wound. Can you remember your name?"

"Beth," I paused, "The man I was with, is he here too?"

"You were alone. If we haven't have saved you, you'd be one of them right now. So you owe us."

What the hell?

After looking around this place, it seems too well put together. Machines, electricity, food, there has to be something bad about here. I don't like it. But I acted like I did. I walked into a patients room with Dr. Edwards. He was telling me about the patient, a group was on a run and found him. He told me he did everything he could so he turned the machine off.

"Wait.. That's it?" I asked him with an upset tone. Dr. Edwards told me if patients didn't improve their health then to put them down to save resources. With that, Dr. Edwards plunges a knife into the patient's skull. It makes sense but it's sad. Death is always sad to watch.

We push the bed on wheels to the hallway. When we pause for Dr. Edwards to talk to Dawn, I keep walking without the bed and see a person mopping the floor. I tilt my head to the side to see better, but it didn't help. I walk a little further and see a glimpse another patient before she closes the door on me.

"C'mon the body is getting cold." Dawn quickly said and we continued rolling the bed towards wherever they are taking us. Dawn unlocks doors and we roll the bed through.

"How many people live here?"

"Enough to keep us going. Some people started here, some came as patients like you. Everyone has a job."

Apparently we don't bury the patients unless we have to, we toss them down an elevator. Yeah like I said, I don't know if I like this...

- (an: got lazy so I skipped writing about Beth skipping her meal and her meeting w Dr. E)

It's been some time and now Dr. Edwards and I are helping a new patient. He had internal bleeding and there was nothing we could do to save him. Dr. Edwards just finished telling Dawn there was nothing to do, and she looked down with a look of sadness in her eyes.

Then out of nowhere she turned to me and slapped me, breaking the stitches on my cheek. Blood trickled down my cheek.

"Steve, try to grasp the stakes here." She said angrily and coldly walked out.

-

We were back in my room, and Dr. E was tending my wound.

"Is she always in a bad mood like that?" I ask Dr. E.

"She has her bad days... It unfortunate for us that's the only kind of days she has.. Kyle left you a new shirt."

Kyle must have the job as a laundry person.

"What's wrong with this one?" I ask confused.

"She likes things neat." He points to the blood on my shirt from the new patient. I smile as I say with sarcasm,

"She must love your office.."

"We all have ways of making her pay. I'll wait for you outside" He says with a smile and leaves.

I grab the new shirt from my pillow and was about to put it on when I saw something in the pocket. I pull out a green lollipop and smile.

Once I'm done changing, another patient is grunting while getting forced by officers into a room a few doors down.

One popped their head out and said,

"Dawn needs you, now."

We rushed into the room where they took the girl. My mouth opened in shock when I saw a massive bite mark on her arm. It all happened so quickly.

Next thing I knew, they were sawing off the poor girl's arm. Blood was everywhere and I felt like I was going to be sick. Her screams and cries echoed through the hospital. I wasn't so great with blood...

-

After that was over I went into the laundry room to put my dirty clothes in the washer.

I closed the door behind me and jumped when I heard a voice,

"Are you okay? I'm Kyle. Of the lollipop guild?"

There stood a guy about maybe a few years younger than me, smiling.

"Beth. Thanks for that." I say back.

"Thought you could use a pick-me-up. After this morning.."

When he saw my shirt he let out a breath,
"Should've brought the whole jar, here this should fit."

The boy handed me a new shirt. I didn't say anything. All I could think about was that patient named Joan. The one they sawed the arm off of.

"Do you know what happened to Joan? If she just stayed and worked for a while, couldn't she just go? How long have you been here?" I ask him-Kyle.

"A few days, long enough to realize this place isn't any good. They're too..."

"They expect something good to happen. For people to come but you and I both know that's not gonna happen."

I nod in agreement.
"Exactly."

We talked for a while, Kyle knew of a place to go through to escape. Down the elavator. So that's what we did.

Well tried. Only Kyle got out and now I'm stuck in here. I'm happy he left though. He deserves it :)

AN- GOT SUPER LAZY AT THE END AHAHHA don't judge me it's late :>
