Emma
Luckily I catch the last train to the city. Once I get settled in on the train I call Ruby.
"Okay I either just made a huge mistake or did the right thing," I say as soon as she picks up.
"Alright, what happened?" I launch into the story and tell her every detail.
"Oh my god," is all she can say once I finish.
"Yeah, so did I make a mistake or not?" I ask again.
"No, you did the right thing. He wasn't treating you the way he should. This will bring him to his senses and when you go home on monday he will be there to apologize. He loves you so much, you have no idea," she says.
"Oh no I do because I love him just as much, but damn he can be such an ass sometimes," I say as I lean my head against the window.
"Then it should work out. Anyway where are you staying in the city?"
"I have no clue. I was just going to find a cheap hotel and stay there," I say nonchalantly.
"Late? On a thursday night? Oh no you won't find anything under 250 a night, that would be nice enough. James and were able to move into our apartment early, you have to stay here. What time does your train get in?" she commands.
"In about half an hour, but really I can just find somewhere else to stay," I protest.
"Nonsense, I'll be at Union station when you get in call me when you've arrived." she says then hangs up. Well she won't budge on the subject once she's made her mind. I set my phone down and just think.
The train rolls into the station a little later than I'd hope, but not to bad. I grab my bag and call Ruby.
"Hey, I am here," I say a little tired.
"Ok, I am by the information booth in the main lobby. If you need visual aid I am wearing red skinny jeans," she says.
"Okay, see you in a few." I hang up and weave in and out of the crowd trying to get to Ruby. I need to get ready for tomorrow and sleep. About five minutes later I find Ruby eagerly waiting for my arrival at the information booth. She wraps me in the tightest hug ever.
"How are you doing?" she asks concerned as we pull out of the hug. I just shrug.
"Can we get some food? I am starving," I say. She nods.
"There is this great little chinese place by the apartment, so we'll drop off your stuff and then we can go," she nods and we walk on out. About an hour later we are sitting this hole in the wall chinese place with only ten or so tables.
"Do you think Killian has found the note yet?" Ruby asks after we order.
"Maybe, I don't know. He could see it and choose to do nothing or freak out completely. Honestly after our fight I think he will spend the night with some of the football guys, so he may not come home tonight," I speculate.
"That's true. What do you think he'll do?" she asks.
"Well, I really don't know his emotions are everywhere lately, so I never know what's going to happen," I sigh. With that our food arrives and we are silent for a while. Later we head back to the apartment and I get some much needed sleep.
The next morning I wake up early to find Ruby and James having breakfast already.
"Oh you're up. How are you doing, Emma?" James asks.
"I am alright," I say truthfully.
"We didn't want to start without you, but we didn't want to wake you either you seemed like you needed some rest. Please grab whatever you want," Ruby comments.
"Okay great. I actually feel a lot better," I grab some cereal and sit down with them.
"Good," Ruby smiles. I look around the cozy apartment. Its small, but not absolutely tiny. They have made it feel like home.
"You guys moved in awful fast," I comment.
"Yeah, well it didn't make sense to wait," James reaches across the table and squeezes Ruby's hand.
"Well its beautiful. You guys have really made it a home," I smile.
"Thank you that means so much to me," Ruby smiles, "Okay, so when are you meeting the New York Times guy?"
"We are meeting for lunch at this french restaurant. I have the address in an email, but we aren't meeting until one."
"Nice, we have classes, so we will leave a key, so you can get in and out when you need to," Ruby explains I nod and they get ready for their classes and leave. After they leave I slowly start to get ready. I decide to wear my grey pant suit with black heels. I put my hair up in a high ponytail and do really natural make up. I put together my purse, lock up the apartment, and head out. I turn off my phone so there are no distractions.
I take a cab and get there in just enough time. When I arrive Sebastian is waiting for me. I hurry to the table.
"I am sorry have you been waiting long?" I ask hurriedly.
"No not at all," he chuckles, "Please sit," he gestures. I sit down and place my purse at my feet.
We look at the menu, order, and that is when the conversation begins. We talk about the news cycle and how the online age is changing how we recieve news.
"Emma, honestly I think you will be a great fit for your internship this summer what do you say?" He asks.
"I couldn't be more excited and honored to work with you guys," I accept the offer. We begin talking about the hours I would be working. I tell him when school gets out. He promises to email when we get closer to school getting out about more details. We shake hands and he leaves first. I sit there in shock for about five minutes and then jump up and run out of the restaurant. I turn my phone back on and send a text to Ruby. I call my parents and leave a voicemail for them knowing that they are teaching at the moment.
I go back to the apartment, and no one is there. As much as I want to go out to celebrate I have to wait. About an hour later there is a knock at the door. Confused I go to the door and look out the peephole. Ruby stands there with a bottle in her hands. I let her in.
"Sorry darling we gave you my key and congrats! I am so happy you'll be here this summer. Its going to be so great you have no idea. We can go out and see each other more. Wait did you ask Killian about this?" she pauses. I shake my head.
"I haven't heard from him. When he stops being an asshole we can talk about this, but not now," I shrug.
"Well alright, thats fair. James is picking up dinner, but I got us some champagne," she giggles. I smile.
"Nice, you want to wait for James?" I ask. She nods and a few minutes later he walks through the door with a pizza.
"Hmm perfect, how was your day?" Ruby asks. He places the pizza on the counter and kisses her cheek.
"Good. Now I know how Emma's day was, how was yours babe?" He smirks.
"Good. Now open this bottle," She hands the champagne to him. He pops the cork and pours some into plastic cups.
"Sorry we don't have anything nicer," Ruby apologizes.
"Oh you know I don't care. You guys are like family to me," I say. They smile at this. James raises his glass and we follow suit.
"To Emma and her internship. The best of luck," he announces. We all tap glasses and drink up. We stay the rest of the night because it has started to snow. The rest of the night we eat, drink, and watch some movie on tv. We decide to turn in early.
Some time later that night there is a loud banging on the door. Still half asleep roll over hoping it will go away. It continues on and I sit up. I look across the room at James and Ruby. They look like they are still asleep too.
"Should I get that?" I ask. They both nod slowly. I get up and go to the door. I unlock it and open slowly. Killian is standing in front of me, snowflakes in his hair.
"What the hell is this?" he asks holding the note I left him.
Ohhhhh he followed her! Don't hate me for the cliffhanger. <3 As always please comment and vote! xoxoxo
