Derek woke up later than usual around 8. The kids slept over Callie and Arizona's again, so it was just them.
Derek shimmied down to Merediths stomach and sighed. "Hi baby. I'm your daddy." He whispered. "Today we're going to see you, and we're so excited. We love you so much little one." Derek said quietly. "You're gonna love your big sister." He added as Meredith shifted.
"Mm good morning." Derek said as he moved upwards in the bed and kissed her softly. "Morning." She replied sleepily. "How are you?" He asked. "Good. Nervous." Meredith admitted. "Why?" Derek asked.
"I- last time." Meredith said, enough for Derek to understand. "It won't be like that time. Last time was a completely different situation when I was bleeding out on an OR table." Derek said softly. Meredith almost laughed at that. "I need the baby to be okay." Meredith whispered.
"I know. She will be. Or he. It will be just fine, and in 7, 8,9 however many months, we're gonna have a beautiful little baby." Derek said reassuringly. Meredith smiled and kissed him softly. "Now our OB appointment is in an hour. Let's get ready." He suggested softly.
Once they got out of bed and changed and ready for the day, they left the house together.
Derek and Meredith arrived at the Mercy West and stepped in. "Meredith Grey." Derek said to the receptionist as they checked in. "Take a seat. Dr Williams should be with you shortly." She said.
Merediths knee tapped nervously on the ground in anxiousness. "Meredith Grey?" Dr Williams asked. The couple stood up and followed the doctor into the room. Meredith changed into a gown with dereks help.
Meredith took a seat on the exam table, while Derek stood next to her. "Okay dr Grey, dr Shepherd. Is this your first pregnancy?" Dr Williams asked. "Uh, no. I-I had a miscarriage a few years ago." Meredith replied quietly. Derek held her hand supportively. "I'm sorry to hear that. So, I looked over your chart and I want to do an ultrasound today and see how everything's going." He said.
"Lift up your gown please." Dr Williams requested. Meredith did so and he squirted gel over her abdomen and used the ultrasound. "And...there's your baby." Dr Williams said. Meredith and Derek watched in awe and smiled. "Looks around 8 weeks along, so almost 2 months." He said.
"Mer." Derek said in awe. "That's our baby." Meredith whispered. "Everything looks good right?" Derek asked protectively. "Yes dr Shepherd. Everything is looking just fine. Good size, weight, good everything." He replied. "And with our...history....is there anything we can do?" Derek asked.
"Pre natal vitamins. And make sure your getting enough sleep." Dr Williams said. "Okay." Meredith replied. "Any questions before I go?" Dr Williams asked. "Yeah, actually. I'm having a surgery on my arm next week, the baby will be okah right?" Meredith asked. "What surgery?" He asked. "Nerve transplant." She replied. "Yeah. It should be okay. Just have someone monitor you." Dr Williams said. They both nodded. "Okay. Everything looks good. I'll see you again in 4 weeks." He said as he led them all out of the room.
"Wow." Meredith said in amazement as they left the hospital and into the car. "I know. We're having another baby Mer." Derek said with excitement. "We are." She said with a smile. "Ready to go home?" She asked. "We aren't going home yet." Derek replied. "Where are we going rhen?" Meredith asked in confusion. "Just wait." He said with a smile as he continued driving.
Derek pulled up to the ferryboat and smiled when he saw Merediths face. They got out together and got on, opting to stay on the top deck. "Nice day out, huh?" Derek asked with a smile. "Really nice." Meredith replied happily. "We're having a baby. Another baby Mer." Derek said still in shock.
"I'm scared. But a good scared." Meredith admitted as she looked out toward the water. Derek put his arms around her and grabbed on to the railing, surrounding her whole body. "Me too Mer. And that's okay." Derek replied as he kissed her neck.
"When should we tell people?" Derek asked curiously. "Can we wait until 12 weeks?" Meredith asked hesitantly. Derek smiled. "Sure Mer. Whatever your comfortable with." He replied. "Thank you." She said.
They went home and for the rest of the day, they relaxed on the couch. "Think Zola's gonna be excited?" Derek asked as they watched her play. Callie and Arizona had dropped her off when they got home.
"Hopefully. I think she'll be a good big sister." Meredith replied with a content sigh. "I always wished I grew up with a sister. I'm glad Lexie's here." Meredith admitted. "Me too. I love you Mer." He said so lovingly. "I love you too Der." She replied.
