2D's room was somewhat dark when you awoke; the lights were still off and instead of afternoon sunlight shining in through his singular window, you were just met with the sight of sun-filled blue ocean water.

But you were used to that by now.

The faint traces of light from the window shown upon 2D, who lay resting below it. He looked so peaceful, and after the day you had yesterday you knew he needed his rest.

Would it really be worth it to wake him up for that idea that came to you last night?

Well, you thought. If we don't do it, what will we end up doing today?

You figured you had nothing to lose. After all, it was just a suggestion. With not much else thought, you placed a hand on the sleeping boy's shoulder and began to shake him. "Wake up, D, wake up!"

2D grumbled, his eyes squinting further shut. "Whaaat, Y/N?"

You gave him a cheerful smile. "Good morning."

2D rolled over, facing the wall, clutching his pillow. "Rubbish," he groaned in reply.

"Aww, c'mon, D," you whined playfully. "You can't sleep all day!"

"'oo says?"

"Me!"

Most likely finally realizing you wouldn't leave him alone until he did, he rolled back over to face you and sat up, rubbing his eyes and letting out a yawn. "Fine, you win." He gave you a sleepy smile. "G'morning, Y/N."

"I had an idea." You began talking animatedly, standing up and sitting next to him on his bed. "You, uh, can't see from here, but," You turned to look at the window, then back to him. "It's a nice day outside!"

"'ow d'you know that?"

"I have a feeling." You nodded, smiling. "Anyway, they don't need you in the studio today, and Murdoc's not gonna be around much, so..."

2D raised an eyebrow. "So...?"

You stood up again, putting your hands on your hips with confidence. "Let's go outside! Let's have fun!"

He looked up at you with a look of uncertainty. "Fun...?"

"Sure!" You exclaimed excitedly. "Think about it; when's the last time you were outside?"

He thought for a moment. "Er...since you got 'ere, I fink."

"See? And plus, what are you gonna do all day anyway, stay bunkered up inside all day watching horror movies?"

"Actually, now that you say 'at, I'd love t-"

"Oh, come on, let's go!" You took his hand and pushed him up to his feet, ushering him to the lift.

When the two of you stepped outside, you were immediately met with a light gust of wind against your skin, and bright, hot sunlight. Sand crunched beneath your feet as you stepped off the last step of the stairs and onto the beach. You looked back at 2D, who still stood in the shade by the door to the lift, looking hesitant.

"Come on!" You said, beckoning him to you with your hand. "What could happen?"

"Y'want me to give you th' full list?"

You rolled your eyes, smirking. "Fine, you stay there and I'll go have fun."

Not even five seconds after you began to walk away, you heard a "Y/N, wait!", which caused you to turn back around. 2D slowly stepped out of the shade into the sunlight. After waiting a few seconds just to make sure nothing would suddenly strike him down, his long legs cautiously headed down the steps until they landed him on the sand. He looked from his feet up to you, a grin spreading across his face. "I did it!"

You beamed with delight. "You did it!"

Since you couldn't decide on what to do first, the two of you began to walk on the shore, really taking in the (albeit, far from interesting) scenery.

"Y'know somefin'?" 2D spoke up. "I got woke up this mornin' by a noise comin' from out 'ere. Sounded like two blokes rappin' about flags or somefin' like tha'."

You giggled. "Really? Well, how'd it sound?"

He thought for a second, then spoke again. "Actually pretty good!"

It wasn't long until you reached the part of the shore that still held the remnants of your crashed sailboat. Several of its pieces were missing, having probably been washed away by the waves. For a brief moment, your heart sank, until your eyes wandered to the rear of the boat, which surprisingly still held a single small flag, sticking up, slightly waving in the wind.

"Hey!" Your face lit up. You bent down and grabbed the small flag, showing it to 2D. "I've got an idea." You smiled. "Let's play 'capture the flag'!"

2D looked somewhat nervous at this proposition. "Ah, I dunno, Y/N, 'm not a very good runna'-"

"Nonsense!" You encouraged. You looked down at the flag, then put it in his hand. "Here. You can start."

2D looked down at the flag as if he were studying it for a moment. Then, out of nowhere, he was off like a shot down the beach as you stood with widening eyes.

"Hey!" You laughed, immediately going after him.

After a minute of you two running back and forth with the flag, to accompany the sounds of your running and laughter was a melody arising from the studio. Bongos, flutes and various wind and string instruments uniting to create an exotic symphony, serving as the soundtrack to your game.

Until, after a minute or so, the melody abruptly stopped, distracting you, causing you to stop in your tracks while still holding the flag.

This didn't go well, seeing as after a few seconds, a not-paying-attention 2D crashed straight into you, knocking you both into the sand.

"Bloody 'ell!" 2D exclaimed, his face red with embarrassment as he scrambled to get off you. "'m sorry, Y/N!"

You just laughed. "No, no, it's my fault." As he knelt over you, looking mortified, you handed him the flag again, giving him a playful grin. "There. You win."

As the both of you stood up, dusting sand off of your clothes, you couldn't help but get the feeling you were being watched.

You glanced up at the towering structure on the beach, until your eyes landed on the window of the study that led to the studio.

Standing in the window was the cyborg, staring emotionlessly down at you.

You shivered when you made brief eye contact with the robot. After a while, you'd forgotten that it was even on the island, seeing as you made a point to avoid it at all times. But nevertheless, there it was, watching silently. You knew it was not a force to be reckoned with. You knew it would report to Murdoc at the slightest move of yours that it didn't approve of. It wouldn't hesitate to get you and 2D in trouble, and that wasn't what you needed, what he needed.

You looked over at 2D, who had been looking where you were looking. He said nothing, but he looked back over to you, communicating a message that both of you understood.

Maybe now it was time to go back inside.

You and 2D trudged back to the lift, the sky already seemingly turning darker. Still, as you walked back, you smiled at him. "Hey," you reminded. "We had fun for a little bit, at least."

2D shrugged, returning the smile with a weaker one. "It neva really lasts around 'ere." You could hear the defeat in his tone, the way he was completely unsurprised at this outcome. "But still," you met his eyes as he turned his head to you, his cheeks still somewhat pink. "Fank you, Y/N."

You beamed happily. Those words alone were enough for you to consider today (mostly) a success.
