(Warnings: none)
The voices screamed in agony, begging for mercy towards Alcina as she searches desperately for the one most precious to her.
She calls for you among the sea of thousands, hearing but a faint cry of your voice she whips around, her hat thrown asunder as she does so.
Alcina begins to run, hearing your voice growing further and further as she attempts to chase it, the calls of innocent overriding almost entirely until— she falls.
With a horrid gasp, she sits up, her heart hammering against her chest as she blindly grips the sheets in a white-knuckled clasp, her lungs burning as she stares wide-eyed into the darkened space that was her bedroom overcome with a bone-chilling fear as the voices of her dream fade into the distant parts of her mind.
Just as quickly as it appeared, her panic slowly dissipates, the knowing memory of you sleeping by her side helping her to relax. A rueful sigh leaving her lips as she drops the sheets from her hands and moves her left hand to find your sleeping form.
It was a known fact that she had frequent nightmares, and it was also known that you could calm her with your presence, so when her hand comes down on nothing but a cold sheet and an empty bed, her heart sank.
Desperately, she drags her hand up to the pillow, hoping you simply rolled further than normal— but nothing...
Her voice quakes as she calls your name, working on a thin line of patience as she throws the sheets from her legs and moves to light a candle, her sight never having been best in the dark.
Her heartbeat pounds in her ears, a rumbling thunder that controls her panic and ensures it remains longer than needed.
"Come...on dammit!"
Blindly searching over the nightstand, the clutter of the candle comes to her attention as it rolls to the floor, clattering loudly enough to push Alcina over the brink.
"Son of a-!"
The door creaks as light filters into the room, Alcina's towering figure illuminated by the light from the hallway as you peer obliviously into the room, a glass of water in hand.
You reach a hand up to tiredly rub at your eye, a yawn on your lips as you approach. Grinning like a sleep-deprived child afterward.
Alcina exhales, slow and steady yet her posture remains rigid.
"Where were you? Do you have any idea how dangerous the castle grounds are at night?"
You blink slowly, dragging your feet as you walk into the room and shut the door with your heel, leaving the room in darkness once again.
"I was getting water...?" You answer quietly, curious as to how any of the creatures that roamed at night would get into a castle such as this.
Alcina follows the sound of your steps, glaring daggers in the direction she thought you were...until she hears the bed creak with your weight and the 'clink' of your glass being set down on the nightstand.
Acting as if knowing you were already laying down, she moves to do the same, continuing with her previous statement.
"Had you woken me, I would've gladly fetched a glass for you?"
You make a noise. "I tried, but you growled..."
Alcina scoffs in disbelief, reluctantly crawling into the bed beside you.
"I do not growl."
You chuckle, turning onto your side as you pull the blankets over your legs, keen on getting away from the cold chill of night while Alcina continues to defend herself against growling, her protests proving as a means of convincing herself rather than attempting to assure you that you were just imagining things...you find it better to just leave the fact of her violently cuddling a pillow out of the picture...for now.
(A short one for my usual, but I wanted to get something out while I finished up the requests)
