I read the contract and signed it, Evan's lawyer had done a good job making sure I had an out at any point in the contract if I needed it. I was surprised as I signed on the dotted line that my stomach didn't churn at the thought of singing on a stage night after night in front of thousands.
We ran through the set and everything ran smoothly. Jack pulled the lead out of his guitar and lifted it off over his head.
"I really hope you decide to join us full time." He exclaimed.
"You feel like the missing puzzle piece, we all agree."
Joan walked over and placed her hand on my shoulder. "No pressure, but yeah. You complete us."
I laughed and then shrugged. "Is this where I'm supposed to say you had me at hello?"
"Finally! Someone gets my Jerry McGuire references, it's a sign." Joan joked.
I smiled. "One of my faves. Lets see how this mini tour goes."
I replied, I knew my response was non committal, but it had to be. I had no idea if I was going to walk on the stage and sing. Right now I might be the Four Jays missing piece, but if I fucked up on stage, I'd be the piece lost and kicked under the sofa forgotten about forever.
"Hey guys, Can I grab Alice." Kat exclaimed, opening the studio door. I smiled and excused myself from the room. I followed Kat out of the booth and out into the corridor.
"We wanted Ev's designer friend to come along for hair and makeup, but she's unable to as her wife is still recovering. So she gave us a number for someone, she's also shipped in a whole lot of clothes for Ela to wear. I just wanted you to know I'm committed to keeping your identity hidden, unless and until you decide you want otherwise okay?"
I nodded. "I appreciate it." I pulled out my phone and glanced at the time, it was almost 2pm. I needed to talk to Scarlett and Xavier and by talk I meant lie... miserably.
"Evan's on his way, I called when you guys were almost finished just to let him know you did a stellar job."
"I might go wait out in the car park for him. See you tomorrow Kat."
"See you star girl."
I turned and walked down the corridor and out into the car park. Evan's car drove in as I walked out, he pulled up beside me and I hopped in.
"I already called Aunt Scarlett and Uncle Xav, they are expecting us for dinner at 5pm. Greta begged me before I left, to bring you down to the café by work to say goodbye."
"Oh, of course." I replied.
We drove back towards Booked Out, but instead of parking underground Evan parked in the café car park. We got out and walked toward the café. Greta ran out, she engulfed me in her arms and squeezed.
"I'll be back in half an hour. I've got some work to finish off before we head over to Scar's."
I nodded, still engulfed in Greta's hug. She loosened her grip as Evan walked away, and took my hand in hers, pulling me toward the café.
"I can't believe you're gonna be a Rockstar."
"I'm not, Ela is."
"You're Ela." She noted, rather accurately.
"Shh." I hissed, although well aware that right now, Ela was almost a nobody. Just some girl in a band who sung a song a few people liked.
"If I had your voice, everyone would know about it. If I had the talent I'd be on Booked Out's books not file and clear them." She laughed. "But I get it. Let me get you a coffee."
