I looked up at Evan who was staring at me, his eyes filled with an emotion I couldn't read. He nodded slowly before looking back down at his desk. "Then you've made Booked Out as a company very happy."

He looked up and shot me a half smile.

"And you too?" I whispered. "Happy I mean?"

"Is it a yes Ace?" He asked. "Or do you need more time. I cleared the gig with the four jays once I was back in here and gave Kat the task of finding someone at least a little like you. If she doesn't need to do that, I'll let her know."

I sucked in a breath. All he wanted was my answer, all he cared about was that. Not me.

"I'll have to work on the stage fright thing, but yes. I will do it." I spoke deliberately, letting my words fall out like a current cascading down a waterfall.

Evan smiled and then stood up. "In that case Ace, today is your last day. The tour starts next Friday and Kat will want to make sure you and the four jays practice a lot before then."

"My last day here?" I whispered softly, suddenly sad that Evan and I's path had a lot less reason to pass. It had only been a short time, and truth be told we'd had a bumpy start, but I liked it here.

"Yes." he exclaimed, walking around his desk, he stood on the other side of it, as he waited for me to get up.

"Oh." I replied sadly, standing. I pushed my chair in and walked to the door.

"Wait." He called out as I placed my fingers around the handle. I paused and released it. I waited, for less than thirty seconds before Evan's arms snaked around my waist, without much manipulation, he turned me until I faced him. His eyes were dark again, he leaned across and placed a chaste kiss against my lips.

"We should have dinner tonight." He said softly as he pulled back. "My treat."

"Okay." I replied, half knowing that it would be our goodbye.

Greta didn't really say much when I went back out, I gathered she knew what was going on though because when 5 pm rolled around she walked across the floor and yanked me up into a hug.

"Promise me we'll keep being friends." She whispered.

"Of course. I'm leaving work, not LA... not yet." But soon enough.

"This weekend, before you go. We should have drinks. Maybe at Evan's, it'll be fun!"

I nodded, not really planning to stick to it. Evan walked out of his office and over to my desk. I finished the last file I was working on and stood up.

"I let Kat know." He mused. "She's having a three month band contract drawn up for you. No recording contract, no advance. You'll get your share of the fee. If you want to sign on after the tour, they'll make a new contract."

"Oh okay." I whispered, grateful that Evan was still looking out for me.

"I'll have my lawyer look it over, but I trust Kat."

I nodded, Kat was nice. I didn't know her very well, but after our conversations I trusted her too.

"Shall we go?" he exclaimed with a sad smile.

I nodded, grabbing my bag purse and standing. We took the elevator down to the garage and walked in silence to Evan's car. The sound of the car alarm disarming echoed against the concrete surroundings. I opened the passenger door and sat down. I assumed that we'd head right out for dinner, Our office wear was passable for any restaurant really, however Evan drove back to his apartment first.
