Oh, boi! Who's ready for some weird lore Naydra and I came up with while villager hunting in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
I'm assuming you are, but who knows? ;)
If you're still reading this, please enjoy! Naydra and I are very proud of this lore.
Okie, so! We've done around three to four villager hunts recently, trying to replace the autofill villagers we no longer want on our island.
It's been pretty fun, but most hunts take place super late at night, when my executive functioning is tanking. Please bear that in mind - we're not normally this chaotic.
On our very first hunt, I noted that poor Wilbur barely has a minute between bringing me home to the island and having to take off again. That seemed a little weird to me. Is he just frantically powering the seaplane in between flights to make sure we can make it?
So, naturally, we tried to decide what was happening here. And our solution?
There are hundreds of Wilburs.
They're not twins or anything - there just happens to be hundreds of unrelated Wilbur clones, who all picked the exact same profession with the exact same plane on the exact same island.
Orville doesn't realize this, and thinks there's just one ridiculously-productive Wilbur. This makes him feel a little bit anxious, as he can never seem to keep up with his co-worker's insane standards.
This is why it takes him forever and a day to get you in the sky in the first place - he believes there's just one Wilbur trying to get the plane he LITERALLY JUST LANDED from the last island ready to go again, when in reality one Wilbur clocks out and an identical one rolls on up. Poor Orville is stalling as much as he can to give Wilbur as much time as possible to get the plane ready.
With me so far? Probably not, but let's continue! XD
Fast-forward to next villager hunt. We were chuckling to ourselves about the multiple-Wilburs lore, when we noticed something interesting about the text box we usually ignore:
(photo is not mine, credit goes to its original owner)
He always has the same "bellbottom [something] this is stovetop [something]" text box. I'd never paid attention to it until then, but...
"Is he putting a kaleidoscope on his stovetop?" I blurted out, without thinking.
Naydra started laughing. On the next island, Wilbur said "stovetop mountain bike" that time.
"So this one puts a mountain bike on his stovetop?" Naydra asked me.
From that moment on, it was decided.
You can tell which of the hundreds of Wilburs you're talking to based on what he puts on his stovetop.
Naturally, the lore didn't stop there.
The next villager hunt, I wondered if there was some sort of break room where the Wilburs could hang out while they were waiting for a flight call.
The image of a break room filled with identical Wilburs was enough to derail the current conversation. While laughing hysterically, we considered what the Wilburs might do in their off time.
The answer? Coloring books.
One of the Wilburs puts blue crayons - and only blue ones - on his stovetop. We imagined that Wilbur stealing all the blue crayons and slowly starting a bonfire in the corner with them, while the Wilbur who puts a saltshaker on his stovetop cranks the salt into the fire, making it bigger.
The other Wilburs couldn't care less, and are just coloring contentedly with every other crayon except the blue ones, which have Mysteriously Vanished, while devotedly ignoring the growing bonfire in the corner of the break room.
...we need to stop expanding this lore. XD
If you've made it this far, thank you so much for reading! *gives virtual cookie* I'll add to this chapter when we decide on more weird additions next villager hunt. If you have any ideas to contribute to this lovely and not-at-all-canon-breaking lore, please let me know!
Otherwise, have a wonderful and safe day! Kitty out! :D
