Inarizaki's Hidden Foundation

Ch. 1 - Day 1

"What do you mean you forgot your books?"

"I woke up late and was in a hurry so I just grabbed my bag and I guess I didn't pack it with my books!!"

You roll your eyes at your best friend, Mina. It's the first day of the term at Inarizaki High School and already it's off to a rough start for your clumsy but lovable pal. 

From elementary school up until now, Mina and you had been inseparable. It all started when she was getting bullied by a small clique of the "popular girls" who honestly were just jealous of how gorgeous Mina is. With cute short brown hair and the biggest hazel eyes, Mina was the talk of the school (both elementary and middle) amongst the male gender. You, on the other hand, are taller than average with long, slick black hair always tied up in a high ponytail and a piercing gaze behind round glasses. It wasn't intentional that you had an intimidating demeanor, it's just genuinely who you are. When you noticed Mina was getting cornered by the bi**h clique one day after school, you had strut up behind them.

"Does it feel that good to gang up 5 against 1? What, you too scared to confront her alone? Piss off and freaking grow a pair you pathetic excuses for humans," you had said in your scariest flat monotone voice.

They hadn't even tried to fight you. You could see the fear seeping from their eyes as they scurried away, whispering amongst themselves probably how you weren't worth it blah blah blah. Since that incident, you had a strong need to protect Mina who wasn't helpless but too trusting and kind. She and you had become almost like sisters as that was how close you two had gotten.

"Okay, well you're lucky that we are in the same homeroom so we can just share my books for today. DON'T forget them tomorrow," you tell her.

"Y/N, what would I do without you??" she coos, in her flirty voice.

"Probably die," you reply flatly.

"So mean.." she says. You just smirk. She's used to your sarcasm and dry humor by this point.

You both walk to your homeroom and claim two empty seats in the third to last row. Putting down your things and bag, you suddenly hear a rowdy bunch enter. It was a pair of twins, one with bleached blond hair and the other with silver, who were kind of wrestling each other while finding seats and following them was a sleepy-looking dude.

[Mina] *le gasp* .o.

You look over at Mina. "What?"

"Y/N, they're volleyball players from the best middle schools in the prefecture.. they will probably join Inarizaki's volleyball team too! The twins are Atsumu and Osamu, and the one behind them is Suna."

Ah, you had forgotten Mina's little obsession with volleyball.. specifically volleyball boys. She would look them up via internet and try to go to as many games as she could for her own "research purposes".

Jesus, you think to yourself. You hope these boys are not too big of a distraction for Mina. She really needs to focus on her grades from here on out. You were always at the top of your classes previously and Mina would be in the bottom ten. No matter how much you try to help her, she just doesn't improve. In theory, it's okay since not everyone is academic but still, she needs to at least pass all her classes.

As these thoughts run around in your calculating mind, the twin with silver hair approaches and takes the seat behind Mina. The blonde one sits next to him, and the sleepy one sits behind him.

Silver haired dude taps Mina's shoulder, causing her to turn around. You see her face is bright pink.

"Hey you're really cute.. my name's Osamu Miya. You can call me Osamu. Nice to meet you," Osamu says, holding out his hand. You see from the corner of your eye that some girls are already taking notice of the interaction and are whispering to each other. What, is this guy supposed to be popular or something?

Mina shakes Osamu's hand enthusiastically and replies, "Hi, I'm Mina Kishimoto.. and I already know who you are."

Geh. Mina.. that's not how you make friends announcing you internet stalk them, you think to yourself.

Osamu looks surprised for a second but then smiles. "Eh? Is that so?"

"Yeah! I'm a big volleyball fan! I have been watching all the teams in the prefecture. You and your brother are amazing!"

Osamu turns around and gets his brother Atsumu to greet Mina. "She knows us, bro. She says she's watched us play."

"Oh, uh- I mean not just you guys but Suna you too! " she pointed to Suna, getting his attention. You're spectating this entire encounter without saying a word. It didn't look like you needed to intervene so you kept quiet. She however then inserts you into the conversation, saying, "This is my best friend, Y/N."

"Wassup," you say casually.

"Hey," they reply. Clearly they didn't notice me before but I'm used to it. Mina is the one with the shiny, bright personality and you're the one that's .. not. Your aura is probably much darker like a cloud of black dust.

Osamu turns back to Mina and says, "You know, I think our volleyball team needs someone to look after us during practices and games.. what're they called again-"

"Manager??" Mina pipes up, her excitement reaching her widening eyes.

"Yeah, pretty sure our coach mentioned it during summer camp. It's a new thing for Inarizaki, I guess." He gives her a smile. "Wanna check out our practice this afternoon? I'll let our coach know about your interest."

Mina claps her hands and yelps, "YES! I would LOVE to come check it out." She turns to me, beaming. "Can Y/N come with me?"

You look at her blankly. you sigh and turn towards the twins, waiting for their answer.

Osamu and Atsumu exchange looks. "Yeah, I don't think it'd hurt."

She continues to squeal with enjoyment, and you see that especially Osamu's eyes seem to be fixated on her. It makes you question his motive for inviting her to their practice but you decide to wait this out since Mina seems to be enjoying herself immensely.

What a way to start off the first day of high school.
