Kerala is also called the land of coconuts for the availability of coconuts in abundance.

Let's start with the origin of this land. According to mythological stories from the well-known, rich culture of India, the land emerged from underneath the ocean water.
It is said that Parasurama threw his weapon across the sea, and as far as it reached, the water receded itself from that land. According to the legends, this new area of land extended from Gokarna to Kanyakumari. The land which rose from the sea was filled with salt and was unsuitable for sustaining life, so Parasurama invoked the Snake King Vasuki, who spat the holy poison and converted the soil into fertile, lush green land.
King Vasuki and all the snakes were appointed as protectors and guardians of the land.
