Maharashtra.

Bollywood? The world of the riches? The place where dreams become a reality? Ambani? “Paisa hi paisa?”

Is this what comes to the mind of someone who lives outside Maharashtra? But this state is much more than that.

The real Maharashtra is the shouts in the streets during Ganesh Chaturthi, “Ganpati Bappa! Moraya!”

It is that one sweet message you are given while forcefully being fed til ke laddu during Makar Sankranti, “Tilgul ghya, godh godh bola.”

It is the hustle and bustle in the local trains.

It is the fullness in Ratnagiri’s mangoes, the sweetness in Mahabaleshwar’s strawberries, and the tanginess in Nagpur's oranges.

The real Maharashtra is an emotion, which 11.42 crores people share collectively.

Maharashtra is a state in the western peninsular of the Indian Deccan Plateau. It was formed on 1st May 1960 after splitting the bilingual Bombay State into Gujarat and Maharashtra. Thus, due to this reason, this day is observed as Maharashtra Day.  Before Independence, Maharashtra was ruled by the Satavahana Dynasty, the Rashtrakuta Dynasty, Western Chalukyas, the Deccan Sultanates, Mughals, Marathas, and the British, in that order.

With an area of 307,713 sq. km, it is the third-largest state of India and the second largest in terms of population. Maharashtra is the most industrially advanced state of the country, with its capital, Mumbai, as India’s financial hub. Other cities like Nagpur, Pune, and Nasik also hold great importance. While Mumbai is the capital of the state, Nagpur is the host of winter state legislatures. Pune is also known as Oxford of India due to the presence of well-known educational institutes. It is also known as the Detroit of India. Nashik, on the other hand, is the “Wine Capital of India” as it has the largest number of wineries in the country.
