But it proved to difficult to drift off for Izuku, he'd spent hours with no result. It wasn't because he was tempted by the nearly naked Tohru sleeping next to him, or even that he was nervous about her. He had to blame it on pre-battle jitters. Sometime tomorrow, which was about five minutes from now, would be his fated battle with Umbra. He didn't know when they'd fight or even if he'd win, which had occupied his mind right after he closed his eyes the first time. Right now, he had the crook of his elbow over his eyes, trying to see if blocking out any light would let him sleep. So far, it only made him lose feeling in his arm. Annoyed, he threw his arm to the side, letting it hang limp over the side of the bed as he became fixated on something else. Something was now producing a dull purple light outside of his window. Concerned, he pulled the covers off of himself and made sure they hadn't been pulled off of Tohru.

He swung his legs over the side of the bed and stood, walking slowly towards the window. As he approached it he could see straight out to sea, there wasn't anything blocking it. Which made him stop dead in his tracks. There had always been a tree blocking his view of the ocean. He even remembered seeing it when he entered his room. So where did it go? It was then that he noticed large patches of dirt were mixed in with the grass underneath where the tree was. He then realized that whatever was summoning that light was killing anything organic...or at least just plants.

"What is going o-" he stopped when the purple light grew brighter, killing the previously untouched grass when the light touched it. "That...is something you don't see everyday," not knowing what's happen if the light touched a human, Izuku backed away from the window. He moved towards Tohru and picked her and the blanket up, careful as to not disturb her sleep. He was going to leave, but not before grabbing some clothing. Quickly, he moved over to the door and opened it, the purple light was beginning to steadily creep through his living room. Which was why he ran over to his bathroom and locked them in there. He placed her down on the tile before grabbing a towel to cover the bottom of the door. A chill ran down his spine, causing him to breathe out. A small fog formed from it. But how could he see his own breath in a heated house? As if on point, he looked towards the small window that was near the ceiling above him.

He'd left it open, and now there wasn't a way to close it. Not without touching the purple light and risking whatever would happen. It was most likely death, but would it be painful? Seeing as the two would, without a doubt, be touched by it. As if coming to terms with his bleak future, Izuku bent down while focused on Tohru's sleeping face. At least her last memories would be of him promising to marry her. His hand went behind her head as he moved downwards, going for a kiss. The second that his lips touched her ice cold ones brought up a memory. A cold one. One where he'd eaten a bit of magic from an icy wyrm. He hadn't bothered to see if he could use its power, since he could only use dragonic abilities, but what if he could use any magic? Right now, he had to try, it was their only chance of salvation.

So he focused, trying to recall how cold the ice shard was. He couldn't feel anything in his throat nor his stomach after swallowing it, which was why Tohru submerged him in fire that day. He held out his hand, pointing it at the window, and tried to summon some ice. Instead, he just stood there, pointing like a dunce. Maybe he had to say something too? "Ice blast!" Nothing, "ice roar!" Still nothing, "just work, please!" He raised his voice, stirring Tohru from her sleep. But it still didn't work. "Goddamnit!" He stamped his foot, causing cascade of ice to spike out from it. "It worked!" He stomped again, causing the opaque spikes to stab through the ceiling in front of the window.

"What worked?" He heard Tohru ask, the sounds of their ruffling blanket sounded out, "why are we in the bathroom?"

"Because there is a purple light outside that is killing grass," Izuku explained, unsure if his words had any impact.
