My blood went cold.
"What exactly are they saying?"
"No," Kara shook her head. "they don't exactly talk, I can just feel the emotions of the person who touched this card."
"What were the emotions HE was feeling?"
She hesitated. "Excitement, satisfaction, and dark unimaginable...things."
I just stood there for awhile, trying to process what my sister was telling me. I mean on one hand she seemed like she was telling the truth, why would she lie about something such as this?
Except at the moment I didn't know whether or not I wanted to start laughing hysterically or curl up in a ball and cry.
As the battle in my head continued to brew, I could tell Kara was waiting for a response. But the problem was that I didn't know what to say... except I did.
I snapped out of my zombie like trance and pulled her out of the kitchen. Into the living room and pushed her onto the couch.
"Listen to me, are you positive the voices are telling you the right thing? You can't always believe what they say." I signed, almost desperately.
"You don't believe me do you? No one ever believes me, Kaitlyn! Why do I even bother trying to help people? All they do is scoff and say 'oh she's just crazy, don't pay attention to her warnings'." Kara dropped her arms and crossed them, on the verge of tears.
"Kara, when have I ever said I didn't believe you? I have always stood up for you and never once had any doubt that you were telling the truth. It's just that the voices can't always be right, can they? Because if that is the case, who the hell sent me those flowers?"
Now I was sure I was gonna start crying. Reality was setting in and I didn't know what was going to happen. My parents were out of town, (which is conveniently how a horror movie starts or something) if I called the police which is the smart thing to do, all I had to tell them was that some stranger sent me flowers. I couldn't tell them about my sister because then who knows what would happen?
"You're right, I know I'm sounding ungrateful, but please trust me, by now I know whether or not the voices are truthful. But with that, how are we gonna deal with this?" Kara signed, wrapping her arms around her legs.
The look of fear in her eyes was just too much. So I pulled her into a bear hug.
We sat there for a while, gaining strength from each other.
"Promise me something," Kara signed after pulling away. "..when the time comes, please forgive me."
